Health Club changing rooms
We have taken the decision to replicate last year's maintenance plan of the Health Club changing rooms on the following dates:
- Men's - Mon 23 Nov to Mon 30 Nov
- Ladies - Mon 30 Nov to Mon 7 Dec
The changing rooms will be closed for these works and, as before, the golf changing rooms will be available as an alternative to use during this essential maintenance period.
The previous re-grouting of the shower tiles has not given the desired lasting effects therefore a longer term solution is needed to maintain the required appearance. To this effect we will be re-tiling the shower areas. We will use the same grout as used in the swimming pool which is designed for the harsh environment as presented in the showers. Please bear with us during this period as we seek to further enhance our facility.
Members' Survey
It's your last chance now to have your say on the Members' feedback survey which will close at the end of Monday, 16 November. The results will be summarised and made available to the membership in due course.
A few people have been asking about plugged balls in the rough and what the rule is when taking relief and if you can clean the ball when doing so. The quick answer is yes, you can clean the ball when taking relief. The full rule can be read here.
The PGA South's end of year annual dinner was held at Wentworth last week where Calum's post as Captain comes towards the end of its two years. Prior to the dinner there was a 24 team Pro-Am sponsored by Virgin Atlantic round the East Course where Tony Cockerill, Neil Cockerill and Steve Eke joined Calum. The team performed well, finishing 17-under-par and in second place, just an agonising one shot behind, missing out on a pair of tickets each to anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere!
Poppy Appeal Scramble
Well done to Paddy Dowzer for organising another fantastic event where over £1200 was raised. A great result, with many thanks from Paddy to Alan & David for running the competition. To Joanna with her helpers Jennie and Lesley for running the raffle and to all those who kindly donated to the raffle and team prizes. A big thanks too for those that donated to the auction and of course to all those that played. The top team was John Penalver, Neil Highgate and Ben Clements with a nett score of 61.3, nearly four shots clear of the Assistant Professionals Steve, Alex and Sam who had a 65.
Congratulations to Ryan Chilton who sealed the Junior Academy Order of Merit last week, just ahead of Lucy Pigram, when winning the Autumn Masters. On a tough, wet day, many of the players struggled but Ryan held his nerve to finish ahead of the field on the 8th green. The performance of the event has to go to 8-year-old Bailey Penalver (pictured here) who finished just two shots behind Ryan, taking second place overall and winning the Under 9s event. Full results:
- Autumn Masters Champion - Ryan Chilton
- Under 15s - Yusuf Hussain
- Under 13s - Henry Knapton
- Under 11s - Ryan Chilton
- Under 9s - Bailey Penalver
- Under 7s - Leo Cahi
- Girls - Holly Swain
The next event is the Autumn Junior/Adult Foursomes on Saturday, 5 December. If any members would like to help out as a playing adult please let Calum know.
