A word from the General Manager
As autumn now seems to be upon us, the fair weather golfer may be pondering whether to stick the clubs in the garage and embark on the annual fitness campaign in the Health Club. As a Cottesmore member, you may of course choose one or the other or both! The golf courses remain in very good condition whilst the new swimming pool lighting looks even more enticing the darker it becomes outside. The choice is yours...
On the clubhouse side we have enlisted the consultancy services of lifelong restaurateur and hotelier Arthur Davy to move our food and beverage offering forward. Arthur has built up a wealth of knowledge working with the Hilton Hotel group as well as a number of privately owned hotels. All aspects are currently under review to move the menu to a position where it is more reflective of our overall business and to deliver the required quality for members and visitors.
Have a good week!
Kind regards
Johnny Porter
General Manager
A week in the life of………
As always, Calum has had a busy week this week. On Thursday and Friday last week he was at Farnham playing the South Region OOM Finale and was happy with his top 25 finish amongst the best in the South of England. Rounds of 73, 70 & 75 gave Calum a two-over-par total, someway off the leaders (full-time players) but a satisfactory total considering how much golf Calum actually plays.
A weekend of coaching with the Junior Academy was followed by further education on Monday when he attended a seminar by Dr Rob Neal on the biomechanics in creating power in the downswing. A very complicated subject made understandable by a tremendous expert and first-rate lecturer. Calum is always keeping up with modern philosophies and technology on the golf swing and spends many an evening with his head in a book or scouring the internet to enhance his knowledge.
Monday afternoon it was back to Cottesmore to check on the shop and then a few lessons. Tuesday was a standard day at Cottesmore in the shop and coaching before a meeting with the men's section to sort out the 2016 diary and then host the management meeting with each section's captain and vice-captain.
A 4.50am alarm call on Wednesday morning to get ready to drive up to The Belfry for a PGA Executive meeting (normally attended by PGA in England South Chairman but as he was not available so Calum attended in his role as Vice-Chairman). Home by 7pm and relax after the early start.
