Well done to the Captains who ran the Captains' Charity Pro-Am last week in aid of their chosen charities.
Everyone had a great day which was a huge success. Our course has always stood up to the challenge with the best Professional score being a level-par 72, however the best team came in with 20-under-par. Kyle Kelsall from Quin Direct had the secret in bringing three ladies as his team just pipped the favourites, Neil Highgate, John Penalver and Ben Clements to top spot. The winning team can be seen here along with Captains Pat Johns and Harry Reed.
If you enjoyed the Pro-Am or feel that you missed out by not playing in it, here is another chance to play in a great team event. Our good friends Clearwater People Solutions are hosting their golf day in aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation on the 18th September and you are invited to enter a team. If interested please call Hayley on 01293 817634. More details on this event can be found by clicking this link.
Congratulations to Jake Peate, the Cottesmore Men's Club Champion, who won the rescheduled Sussex Boys' Championship last Sunday at Eastbourne Downs.
In tough conditions, Jake shot a level-par 72 finishing three shots ahead of his nearest rival. This win sends Jake to the magnificent Woodhall Spa this weekend, representing Sussex to compete in the English Junior Champions of Champions. Well done, Jake, the practice is paying off! We all wish you well.
A big weekend for the Junior Academy last weekend, not just with Jake winning the Sussex Boys but with the Academy Summer Masters on, the Academy Summer Junior/Adult Foursomes and the Junior Club Championship.
In the Academy Summer Masters it was the Order of Merit leader Ryan Chilton who came out on top again for his second Academy individual win. On a tough day and on a tricky course, Ryan was the only person to get onto the 9th hole with his 36th shot. The results are as follows:
Summer Master - Ryan Chilton
Under 15s - Luck Baldock
Under 13s - Ben Powell
Under 11s - Ryan Chilton
Under 9s - Joseph Byrne
Under 7s - Leo Cahi
Girls - Lucy Pigram
In the Summer Junior/Adult Foursomes, it was last year's Foursomes Order of Merit winner and 2014 pupil of the Year, Will Pirie who came out on top with a tremendous nett 21 over the nine holes. Playing with his dad Neil (pictured above), Will just pipped Summer Masters Champion Ryan Chilton on countback.
Well done to Josh Dance who successfully defended his Junior Club Championship. Having just come back from holiday and with Richard Bailey, Josh Greig and past Champion Ryan Reagan in the field, no-one really knew how to call it. But the Sussex under 14s player stayed solid throughout to stay on top. Consolation for Richard Bailey was winning the nett trophy with a tremendous nett 71.
Exercise of the week - Wide grip pull-ups
A more advanced exercise to test your upper body strength and an adaptation to the more traditional chin up. Palms facing away from your body. A great exercise for your biceps brachii; and for strength and development of your latissimus dorsi (big back muscle).
Ask an instructor to help get you started with different variations to work towards this exercise.
