On Monday, the men's Mail on Sunday team (Trevor Pigram, Andy Peate, Sam Passmore, Mark Waddell and Dan Smythe) played at home against Cuckfield in the fourth round. Having beaten Haywards Heath 4-1 in the last round, Cuckfield arrived confident and fielded a team full of players with the maximum handicap allowed for the competition.
With Cottesmore all having to give plenty of shots, home advantage and good matchplay tactics were needed. Trevor got the team off to a good start with a 6&4 victory, followed by Sam with a 5&4 win despite having to give 12 shots. Andy fought a very tough match getting his match back to all square on the 17th before just missing out when his opponent clinched a point on the 18th green. Mark, despite giving 11 shots, then sealed the tie with a 3&2 win. Dan succumbed 3&1 having had to concede 16 shots to his opponent. The team eagerly await the 5th round draw in a week's time.

Congratulations to Isaac Peate who got back into the winners' circle with victory in the Junior Academy Spring Masters.
In the 36 shot tournament, Isaac (10) was playing in the second group behind the favourites, Ryan Chilton, Ben Powell and Lucy Pigram. With one shot left on the 9th hole and in thick undergrowth, Isaac could see his opponents markers on the green and dialed in on his target. His pitch finished two feet from the hole and victory was his.
Welcome back, Isaac!

Your back is one of the most important areas of your body in terms of physical fitness - keeping it strong and supple is crucial if you want to lead an active life into old age. What many people don't realise is how vital general exercise is for maintaining your back's health.
It is a common misconception that when you want to improve, strengthen or tone a part of your body, you need to zero in on that muscle alone and work it to the bone. For example, when people decide they want to trim their belly and opt to just do sit-ups every day; it's a narrow view of the issue and is not a long-term or particularly healthy method of achieving the goal in question. Of course, if you want to tone your stomach then sit-ups could form a valuable part of a wider routine, but that might also incorporate aerobic work such as running and swimming, as well as broader 'core' muscle exercises, such as planks or squats. The same goes for your back.
