I trust that, with less than three weeks to go until the resumption of golf on 29th March, you are all keeping well and looking forward to playing again. Most of the content in this week’s communiqué provides you with updates on previously highlighted matters. Online Update from Steve Atkins In an attempt to retain some of the features of the old CVGS website two further documents have been added to the noticeboard. A CVGS Competitions Diary and Winners 2021. This provides a diary of all CVGS competitions in 2021 and will be updated with winners and runners up, plus their scores during the year. A CVGS Match Diary 2021. This provides a diary of all our matches. It is worth checking this for the status of matches as some have been lost in the early part of the season and are in the process of being rearranged. Again results will be added as matches are played. Updating unfortunately is cumbersome so updates will not be immediate but will be undertaken every few weeks or when there are significant changes/rearrangements to the diary. As the vast majority of members are now familiar with logging on to the Cottesmore website to book Tuesday golf, the Committee has decided to post committee minutes on the Cottesmore website rather than circulating them by email. These can be found by clicking on "The Club" option in the menu immediately above where you click on "Competitions/Handicaps to book Tuesday Golf. Then click on the "Vets Committee Minutes" blue band. Then select the minutes you want. Once opened the minutes can be printed or downloaded if required. A rolling three cycles of minutes will be retained, three being a limitation of the site. This represents approximately 6 months of meetings now that the Committee is back on a bi-monthly cycle. The minutes of the 2 March 21 meeting are available there now. Tuesday Competitions One or two of you have raised concerns, even disappointment, over your committee’s decision regarding the rescheduling of events in the first few weeks after the resumption of golf on 29th March. This was not made lightly and took into account one of the committee’s main purposes, that of providing friendly, competitive golf, for which most members join CVGS. With very little ‘wriggle room’ in the diary, it was felt that priority should be given to competitions and therefore space was found for the 4 Clubs and a Putter and Foundation Trophy events, previously scheduled before 29th March. The ‘casualty’ events were the Texas scrambles on both courses (originally scheduled for 30.03.2021) and the first round of the Morley/Bacon on the Griffin and Rogerson on the Phoenix (originally scheduled for 27.04.2021). Had there been more space in the diary to allow for a more relaxed return to golf this would, of course, have been preferable. However, it will be the same for all of us and I’m sure we will all be pleased to be back on the courses and playing again. It is also important to remember that, while a few hours on a number of forthcoming Tuesdays may be given over to playing competitive golf, many other days of the week are available for friendly, social golf and practice. Inter-club Matches
Paul Cox is currently trying to re-arrange our AWAY match against East Brighton (originally scheduled for 11.03.2021). Unfortunately, Banstead is unable to accommodate us in their busy timetable to host our AWAY match against them (originally scheduled for 15.03.2021). However, our HOME match against them on 26.07.2021 is still scheduled to take place. Subject to Steve Grouwstra’s confirmation of tee times being available, the HOME matches against Singing Hills (originally scheduled for 07.04.2021) and Slinfold (originally scheduled for 28.04.2021) will take place on 26th and 19th May 2021 respectively. Our first HOME match will therefore be against Chipstead on 14th April and our first AWAY match will be against West Hove on 23rd April. My thanks go to the 30 players who have, so far, registered their interest in wanting to play in our inter-club matches. If you have not yet done so and would like to play, please let me know. As far as the matches against Chipstead and West Hove are concerned, if you would like to be considered for a team place in either or both of these, please confirm your availability by signing up on the Cottesmore website, or e-mailing me. Captains’ Chip-in As you know, this normally takes place just after the AGM at the end of January. Alex Morrison, Andrew Ross and I have agreed to postpone this event until later in the year. I will advise you of the new date in due course. CVGS Seniors’ Open on Tuesday, 6th July 2021 To date, we have received entry forms from 29 visitors and 22 Cottesmore members have signed up on the Cottesmore website. At this early stage, it is unusual for so many places to have been taken up, but this seems to be following a pattern being experienced by some other clubs. Please note that, as this is an open competition, places are allocated on a ‘first-come, first-served basis for both visitors and Cottesmore members. With 45 places left out of a maximum available number of 96 (96-29-22), I suggest that you sign up ASAP if you wish to play. Your entry fee of £35 can follow later. Similarly, if you have friends at other clubs who would like to play, please ensure that they send their entry forms to Alex Henderson, without delay. Trophy Presentations on Tuesday, 29th June 2021 The presentation of trophies and prizes to last year’s winners of the various CVGS competitions will take place on Tuesday, 29th June 2021, in the Challis Room. Those of you who have trophies to return, some of which require engraving, will be asked to do so, in due course. Another Gentle Reminder from our Treasurer For those members who have yet to pay their £18 playing fees, these need to be paid before the end of March to cover the 6 months from 1st April to 30th September 2021. Then £9 will be due to cover the period from 1st October to 31st December 2021. Alternatively, you could pay £27 now to go to the end of the year. Also, annual membership fees of £15 need to be paid by the end of April. Payments can be made by bank transfer to CVGS; sorting code 30-91-44, account number 00351077 (please add your name) or by cheque, payable to CVGS c/o the Pro Shop. I look forward to seeing you all soon, Erik CVGS Captain 2021 |
