Competitions At yesterday’s committee meeting, it was decided to keep most of the forthcoming Tuesday competition dates unchanged, reschedule trophy competitions postponed due to lockdown and cancel the first rounds of the Haig, Phoenix Lanka, P. Morley/H. Bacon and Phoenix Rogerson competitions. The other changes are shown below: Tuesday, 30.03.2021 Haig Trophy (Stableford) Rd 2 (Q) and Phoenix Lanka Trophy (Stableford) Rd 2 (Q) [previously scheduled for 06.04.2021]. Tuesday, 06.04.2021 4 Clubs and a Putter (Stableford) and Phoenix 4 Clubs and a Putter (Stableford) [previously scheduled for 09.03.2021]. Tuesday, 27.04.2021 Foundation Trophy (Stableford) (Q) and Phoenix Foundation Trophy (Stableford) (Q) [previously scheduled for 23.03.2021]. As only two of the eight rounds of the George Higgins and Reg. Davey winter eclectics had been played, it was decided to cancel these competitions for 2020/21. Additional information about the above and other matters will be contained in the Minutes of the meeting that Alex Henderson will shortly be circulating to you. Inter-club Matches Our Match Secretary, Paul Cox, has provided East Brighton and Banstead with a number of possible dates to play our AWAY matches against them that were scheduled for 11th and 15th March respectively. He is also waiting for confirmation from Singing Hills and Chipstead regarding their availability for the scheduled HOME matches on 7th April and 14th April respectively. Currently, 26 members have expressed an interest in playing in our inter-club matches but, if you haven’t yet contacted me and wish to play, perhaps later in the season, just let me know. CVGS in the News Our Competitions Secretary, Paul Dixon, has volunteered to provide the West Sussex County Times with periodical reports of CVGS’ activities, so look out for these in forthcoming editions. CVGS Seniors’ Open Tuesday, 6th July 2021 We’ve received over 20 entry forms from guest players already. Judging by the response experienced by other clubs e.g. Bognor Regis there appears to be a pent-up demand for opens this year. As members, you can sign up for our Open on the Cottesmore website, in the same way as you did for Tuesday competitions last year. Please note that those of you who signed up before last weekend will have to do so again as an ‘issue’ occurred, which wiped out the list of member entrants for the Open. Revision of the CVGS Constitution including financial authorities Chairman Bill Chaffe is heading up a small group including Alex Henderson, David Abbott, Dave Owen and Ron Vance to review the above with the goal of completing this by the time we resume playing golf on 29th March. Sometimes I think Bill’s optimism knows no bounds. Trophy Presentations We are looking to hold a gathering in the Challis, probably towards the end of June, at which trophies and prizes can be given to the winners of the various CVGS competitions. When a date is confirmed I will let you know. Some light relief, courtesy of Nigel Tomsett THE TEN BEST CADDIE RESPONSES Number 10 Golfer - I think I’m going to drown myself in the lake. Caddie - Think you can keep your head down that long? Number 9 Golfer - I’d move heaven and earth to break 100 on this course. Caddie - Try heaven, you’ve already moved most of the earth. Number 8 Golfer - Do you think my game is improving? Caddie - Yes...you miss the ball much closer now. Number 7 Golfer - Do you think I can get there with a 5 iron? Caddie - Eventually. Number 6 Golfer - You’ve got to be the worst caddie in the world. Caddie - I don’t think so – that would be too much of a coincidence. Number 5 Golfer - Please stop checking your watch – it distracts me Caddie - It’s not a watch – it’s a compass. Number 4 Golfer - How do you like my game? Caddie - It’s very good – personally, I prefer golf. Number 3 Golfer - Do you think it’s a sin to play on Sunday? Caddie - The way you play, it’s a sin on any day. Number 2 Golfer - This is the worst course I’ve ever played on. Caddie - This isn’t the golf course. We left that an hour ago. Number 1 Golfer - That can’t be my ball, it’s too old Caddie - It’s been a long time since we teed off sir. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week and look forward to becoming acquainted again with your clubs. Erik CVGS Captain 2021 |
