The event is planned for Tuesday, 29 September, which is for St. Catherine’s Hospice and to remember Alan Rengger, CVGS Chairman who passed away on Tuesday, 2 June 2020. PLEASE do not forget to enter and please do not forget to make a contribution to our final CVGS charity event for 2020. Erik Sorensen is planning to run a team competition on the day and has also set up a Just Giving Page - click here. Any contribution is welcome, no matter how small or large. Five or ten or fifteen or twenty pounds or more. Thanks to the CVGS members for their contributions so far. Greatly appreciated. If any members struggle with web sites, just let Erik Sorensen know by email (Erik Sorensen sixacres.e@gmail.com) and the alternative is a bank transfer or cheque made payable to CVGS. In addition to the Prize Draw which Erik is organising, David Owen has offered to assist in running a silent auction. Anyone making a contribution is automatically entered into the prize draw. Let us finish on a high by showing our generosity. Poppy Appeal – A date for your diary. Always very popular with CVGS members. A team event in threes. Stableford Competition – best two from three. The date is Monday 9th November. Under future competitions, there is a Poppy Day on the Phoenix and Griffin. The Phoenix starts at 10.06. The requirement is a mixed team – could include lady players or three men. Latest position, Griffin filling up nicely and the Phoenix could do with some more entries. Interclub Matches – September: Monday, 21 September BLETCHINGLEY AWAY CVGS lost 2-6. Always a tricky away course which favours the home players. Well played to Paul Dixon, Andrew Downs, Bob Sparks and Wes Lourens for contributing the two wins. October: Wednesday, 7 October Banstead at home. November: Monday, 2 November, Chipstead at home. John Taylor, CVGS Match Secretary is organising on behalf of Cottesmore, a mixed home match versus Sweetwoods, on Monday, 19 October. Future competitions - CVGS - Captains Charity Team Challenge on both the Griffin and Phoenix - Tuesday, 29 September 2020: Please book as soon as possible. Remember Friday is the closing date. Tuesday, 29 September 2020 - Still places available on both courses!! Other matters – Winter Golf attendance on a Tuesday. One or two members have asked what they should do if they decide at a late stage not to play on a Tuesday because of bad weather. The club website allows e-mails to any member but this is probably not adequate on a Tuesday morning. Apart from the matter of good manners, we should try to avoid members waiting on the tee for someone who has decided not to play. We have in the past distributed member phone numbers so that other 3 ball members can be contacted. This is helpful when speed is of the essence. We will be discussing this at the next committee meeting. We need to make sure we are complying with data protection and your personal rights. Any strong views or suggestions to our CVGS Secretary - Alex Henderson henderson.a@sky.com. We may have to ask all our members to confirm they are agreeable to their information being shared for golf matters only. Looking forward to seeing a good turnout of CVGS members on Tuesday, 29 September. Play safe and stay safe, Alex. Morrison CVGS Captain 2020
