Tuesday Windy, wild and wet were the conditions facing the relatively small group that gathered in the clubhouse on Tuesday.
Both courses were open and many were checking the weather forecast, on their smartphones, for a brighter and drier future. Early on there was a glimmer of hope that the strong wind might blow the wet weather away. By 10am all hope had evaporated and some disappeared to the gym and others headed back home. Member’s Corner No competition results to report this week. The weather got the better of us. Member Information We have the Ladies invite to the Vets on Thursday 27th August. Erik Sorensen is organising this on behalf of CVGS. If you have any questions or queries, send an email to Erik Sorensen. Erik’s email address - Erik Sorensen sixacres.e@gmail.com. We are hoping for some decent weather on Thursday in a week where Storm Francis has brought some swirling winds with a scattering of heavy showers and the outlook remains unsettled. Interclub Matches – We were scheduled to play Chipstead, a rearranged home match on Wednesday, 19 August. The match at home was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. A bit like today. We are trying to rearrange this match for late October. Wednesday, 9 September - BLETCHINGLEY 12 players required at HOME- AGREED. Monday, 21 September - BLETCHINGLEY 12 players required AWAY- awaiting format/confirmation. Future competitions Griffin Damn and Blast Trophy Stableford competition. Phoenix Damn and Blast Stableford competition. Damn and Blast Play: 1 (Phoenix) or 2 (Griffin) free shots may be used in the round as long as ‘Damn & Blast’ is called so that the playing partners hear it before the player moves away from his playing position. Once called, a replacement shot is played without penalty from the same spot. If called on a tee shot the ball may be teed up. The original ball ceases to be in play, even though it may subsequently be found in a good position. The free shots are lost if not used during the round –“Use them or lose them”. Free shots cannot be used for putts on the putting surface. Looking forward to seeing a good turnout of CVGS members on Tuesday, 1 September. Play safe and stay safe, Alex. Morrison CVGS Captain 2020
