A message from Alex... A total of 65 CVGS members played in the Tuesday competitions which were held on the Griffin (Vets Haig Trophy Extra Round) and Phoenix (Vets Phoenix Lanka Trophy Extra Round) courses. Good golfing conditions following the club championship. Weather, dry with virtually no breeze and very hot with temperatures exceeding 30 C. Some CVGS members revelled in the high temperatures as can be seen in the scoring and others wilted in the heat. Plenty of roll on another dry day. Following the round, many members enjoyed the 19th. Cool drinks were well received. Many thanks to all the members who donated funds or prizes over the past few weeks. Very generous. Our final charity event is planned for Tuesday, 29 September, which is for St. Catherine’s Hospice. The total raised so far for Chestnut Tree House is £2060. We received a nice email from Jayne Todd our contact at Chestnut Tree House - “What a truly wonderful result, CVGS must be very pleased. We are certainly blown away by everyone’s kindness and generosity. Thank you so much to you all. “ With warmest wishes, Jayne Results: Winner of the Scratch Trophy (best gross score) 2020 is Graham Sinclair. Runner up of the Scratch Trophy is David Middleton. Winner of the David Roberts Trophy (best net score) is Chris Adamson Runner up for the David Roberts Trophy is Dennis Baguley. Well played Graham, David, Chris and Dennis. Member Information: Please note scoring for all future competitions will close at 23.59 on the day of play. This came into effect on Tuesday, 11 August. This helps with the administration of competitions. One other point to note is Friday night is the closing date for competitions for the following Tuesday. This has been the case since we re-started and is a requirement from Cottesmore. The unused slots are then released to the pro shop. Interclub Matches: A number of players have already entered earlier in the year via the CVGS website. Sign up is on the CVGS web site. If anyone is particularly keen on interclub matches and wants their name added to the current lists, please let me know by email. We restarted interclub matches on Friday, 7 August 2020 - Away to Chipstead. A tricky restart. Match at Chipstead Golf Club, Chipstead beat Cottesmore 4 – 2. Chipstead won 3 matches, Cottesmore won one match and two were halved. On a quirky course where local knowledge is a big advantage CVGS had a number of closely fought matches. The return home match is on Wednesday, 19 August 2020. Future competitions - Tuesday, 18 August 2020: Please book as soon as possible. Griffin - Vets Morley/Bacon Rd 5, Medal, Max 5 (Q) Vets Phoenix Rogerson Trophy Rd 5, (Medal, Max 5) (Q) Looking ahead - We have the Ladies invite to Vets on Thursday, 27 August. Erik Sorensen will be organising this on behalf of CVGS and you can sign up via the Cottesmore web site. As usual, go to future competitions. If you get stuck send an email to Erik Sorensen indicating which course you would like to play. Erik’s email address - Erik Sorensen sixacres.e@gmail.com. Looking forward to seeing a good turnout of CVGS members on Tuesday, 18 August. Play safe and stay safe, Alex. Morrison CVGS Captain 2020 |
