Sadly, the Vice Captains team prevailed. I will not say what the score differential was… Coming Up July is an incredibly busy month in our fixture list. Please sign up online to competitions as soon as possible. We have a lot of ladies participating on our tee times at the moment and we need to make sure we have enough times available. Also please be aware that from 1st July we are re-introducing entry fees for all of our competitions. The Treasurer will record who has played and bill at a later date. Prizes will also be recorded and presented at a suitable date in the future. Linda Atkins Lady Captain 2020 Vets news… Dear CVGS members, CVGS had some 45 members playing on the Griffin (Morley/Bacon Medal) and 18 CVGS members playing on the Phoenix (Phoenix Rogerson Trophy) in the Tuesday competitions. A grand total of 63 on a cooler, wet, and cloudier day. Committee Meetings: The next committee meeting is on Wednesday 8th July 2020. Management Meeting: Tuesday 14th July is the next management meeting - 5.30pm. Venue: Cottesmore. Member Information: Keep practising social distancing – 2 metres apart please!!!!! According to the medical experts we remain on a “knife’s edge”. No room for complacency.
Latest update - Continue to keep two metres apart. Social distancing should be used in combination with other measures to reduce the risk of transmission. The CVGS Play Safe Stay Safe guidelines have been updated and provides comprehensive information.
When it is not possible to observe the 2-metre rule, the new "One-metre plus" involves keeping one metre apart, plus other mitigations such as wearing face coverings, sitting people side to side rather than face to face to reduce transmission, and increased use of hand sanitiser. This change will help the hospitality sector in particular. Hotels, bars, Golf clubhouses and restaurants can open from 4th July. The Ryder Cup 2020:
Always a great watch and a favourite with many golfers. The 2020 Ryder Cup is scheduled for the 25th to 27thSeptember 2020 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, USA. Barring an unexpected change of heart, the announcement will come soon that the 2020 Ryder Cup will be postponed. It will not be a shock, just another disappointment in a year full of them. Doing the right thing will leave us with an empty feeling. Pushing it back to 2021, at present, is the most likely outcome and whenever it happens it will remain in my book as one of the most exciting events to follow!! Member News:
Clive Weller is back in East Surrey Hospital, Redhill for further investigations. David Roberts provided me with an update on Monday. We wish Clive well and hope to hear some positive news. Anne Anderson and family (Anne, wife of Mike Anderson, former CVGS treasurer who passed away on Tuesday 21st April 2020) sent to me a Thank You Card for the attention of CVGS. Anne wrote the following “Thank you all for all the lovely cards and emails which you sent to us after the death of Mike. As you may have heard it was a great shock to us. Mike did enjoy his time as treasurer and of course playing with some of you on a Tuesday morning. Thank you all again, best wishes and happy golfing Anne and family”. Member’s Corner:
Vets Invitation to the Ladies – Tuesday 14th July 2020. Format: Stableford Waltz With regard to the above event, we currently have a full complement of vets (30) entered for the Griffin and so far, only 3 for the Phoenix. Please enter on the Vets Invitation to the Ladies (Phoenix) page of the Cottesmore website. Alternatively, please email Erik Sorensen (sixacres.e@gmail.com), Bob Imrie (robert_imrie@sky.com) or Graham Sinclair (grahams@xtenso.co.uk) and they will enter your name. This is our normal Tuesday and it would be good to see 14 CVGS players on the Phoenix. It is a good fun competition.
As for the Ladies, 14 are currently entered for the Griffin and 7 for the Phoenix. I am anticipating teams of three made up of two CVGS members plus one lady. Last week’s picture of Chris Adamson’s tricky 3rd shot (the ball was hard against the wooden leg of the sign next to the green) to deal with on the 11th on the Griffin Course was answered correctly by a number of CVGS members - Chris is allowed “free” relief under Abnormal Course Conditions (Including Immovable Obstructions). Rule 16.1 applies. Next week, we officially start our system of advance payment for competitions. This replaces the collection of the £1.50 per player each week before each competition. These advance competition payments have been set by the committee at £18 for regular players (players who expect to play 7 or more times in the period 1st July to December 2020) and £9 for occasional players, those expecting to play 6 rounds or less during 1st July to December 2020. This year any 2020 surplus funds, subject to CVGS approval, will go to our local charities. Ideally, please pay by bank transfer or alternatively a cheque which can be left in the Vets Box in the Pro Shop or sent to our treasurer by post. Cheques should be made payable to CVGS. Many thanks to all the CVGS members who have already paid. Greatly appreciated. Bank details for bank transfers: A/C Name: CVGS - A/C No: 00351077 - Sort Code: 30 91 44 Treasurer: David Abbott, Tree Tops, Tower Hill, Horsham, RH13 0AG.
