The last few weeks have been pretty hectic but it is so good to be back at work and seeing so many people playing golf. I have had a chance to get out a couple of times and it has been great. I have even played some good golf. Maybe an 8 week lay off is the future. 

Thank you all for following our guidelines to ensure everyone is safe. It hasn't gone unnoticed. I am sure we will hear more from Boris in the coming week or so but until then please continue what you have been doing.

I look forward to seeing you out there.

 
Course news

Last week we promised you new equipment, and here it is. The guys have had their training and are ready to get going this week. Our greens will be back to their usual best before we know it.

Thank you to all who have made donations so far to my charity – St Catherine’s Hospice. I will soon be completing my personal challenge to do 10k steps per day for every day in May. As you know I have done this in lieu of St Catherine’s Midnight Walk which has been cancelled this year. Also, Naomi’s cello quiz challenge has been popular and donations have been coming it for that. A reminder of the JustGiving link

From 1st June we will have our regular Thursday and Weekend slots on both courses. Sign up via the Competitions section of the members’ website in the usual way.
 
Don’t forget that 31st May is the closing date for entry to our Summer Matchplay Leagues on the Griffin and Phoenix. These are instead of the usual Summer Knockout and Plate competitions. We have quite a few signed up already for the 18 hole competition but very few for the 9 so we could do with a few more entries please.

Thoughts for the course

Home advantage is a phenomenon across most sports. In golf, playing a competition or match on a course you know like the back of your hand has obvious benefits. However, when playing a hole for the hundredth time, it’s easy to fall into the trap of playing it the same way you always have. But, what if there’s another way?

Risk and reward - take on the challenge?

This is where the question of risk and reward comes in.

Does the potential risk of bringing danger into play, be it trees or hazards, outweigh the potential reward?

Next time you’re standing on the tee, weigh up the potential risks and rewards of pulling out your driver. Don’t just think about avoiding doubles and trebles, consider the potential birdie or scoring 3-points. Likewise, if you struggle with a particular tee-shot, think about alternative ways to play that hole.
