A message from Linda... Our Ladies' coffee morning took place on Tuesday, 4 February when Felicity Parsons from St Catherine’s Hospice gave an excellent presentation on the work of the hospice and told us about their plans for the new hospice to be built at Pease Pottage. A number of ladies had made cakes to enjoy with the tea and coffee and donations for these raised an amazing £160.31, which is a great start for my year of fundraising. Thank you to the cake makers for the delicious cakes, to the helpers who cut the cakes and poured the coffee, and to all who attended and donated. After Felicity’s talk, I outlined some of my fundraising plans for the year. Thank you to those who came up with their own personal challenge ideas, and to those who offered to do the sponsored Midnight Walk with me in June. A few who can’t do the June date have offered to do the alternative Balcombe walk in October. Kate has offered to host another lunch and Linda C has offered to host both a coffee morning and an afternoon tea. Lots of eating involved which may not help those who have set a personal challenge to lose weight!
Christine’s quiz nights will be advertised soon once we have agreed on the dates with the club working around the various chess moves involved in the refurbishment. The ladies have been ‘lucky’ that in the midst of so many course closures the course has been open on recent Thursdays. Well done to the 14 hardy ladies who endured the soggy weather last week playing in our ongoing Winter Aggregate. There were some surprisingly good scores considering the muddy conditions. Both Caroline and Ros scored 18 points, and Ruth and Mary both had 17. With several more opportunities in the diary, it is still all to play for. The next few weeks have now all been converted to Winter Aggregate days but don’t forget there are also ladies tee times available on the Griffin if you prefer to play 18 holes. We’ve got 11 teams at the moment for the Boozers Scramble on Sunday, 1 March but would like a few more and I know some men would like to enter but need a lady to ‘captain’ the team. This year there will be a choice of prizes, so they won’t all be booze if this is putting off any non-drinkers amongst you! Linda Atkins Lady Captain 2020
