Congratulations to all the winners. It is the intention to make the presentations at the annual dinner on Friday, 15 November and I hope many of the winners will be able to attend. Weekly Winners With the course having been closed on Monday and for a further two of the three previous days there was little expectation of play. So, it was a pleasant surprise when I checked the website to find the courses open. Despite it still being very soggy underfoot it turned out to be a very pleasant day with most players finishing in shirt sleeves. A clear sign that we are definitely into winter golf is when we start playing the George Higgins and Reg Davey trophies. These are our major winter competitions and are played as an eclectic with 8 nominated rounds providing an opportunity to improve your score on each hole. These are in medal format with an allowance of half handicap. However, on each of the nominated day's scores also count towards an individual Stableford to provide a result on the day. Today was the first of the nominated rounds and the Stableford results were as follows: Reg Davey (Phoenix):
- 1st - David Lees - 20 points (countback).
- 2nd - Peter Allanson - 20 points.
- 3rd - Eddie Bowles - 20 points.
- 4th - Edward King - 17 points.
- 5th - Bob Bason - 16 points.
George Higgins (Griffin):
- 1st - Erik Sorensen - 36 points.
- 2nd - Wes Lourens - 35 points.
- 3rd - Mick Bell - 34 points.
- 4th - Don Grange - 33 points.
- 5th - Ron Vance - 31 points.
Thanks to Graham Proctor, Ron Vance and John Oswin for card duty and Alex Morrison and Roger Birchmore for clubhouse duty. Inter Club Matches The course was closed on Monday so disappointingly the mixed senior match with Sweetwoods did not go ahead. There are no plans to rearrange it as it is late in the season. Next Monday we play our final match of the year, away at Mid Sussex.
Next Week Next Tuesday, we play again the Peter Betteridge trophy on the Griffin. This was abandoned earlier in the year due to an electric storm. The format is greensomes Stableford. Pairs will be allocated upon arrival. On the Phoenix, an individual Stableford will be played. Steve Atkins CVGS Captain 2019
