Weekly Winners This is a watershed week as it is the last scheduled day of summer competitions for CVGS. I say scheduled because it has been necessary to shoehorn in a round of the Haig and Lanka next week. It was perhaps then not surprising that preferred lies made their appearance last week as another reminder that the seasons are changing and we are about to go into winter mode. On the day it was definitely soggy underfoot. This week was the final round in the Morley and Bacon Trophies on the Griffin and the Rogerson on the Phoenix. I will report the outcome of all our "best of" competitions along with the results of the knockouts in a couple of weeks. Topping of the leader boards on the day was: Rogerson - Phoenix:
- 1st - John Oswin 32 nett.
- 2nd - Alex Henderson 34.
- 3rd - Bob Bason 35.
- 4th - Pete Hemsley 36 countback.
- 5th - Steve Atkins 36.
Morley (Handicap 19 and under) - Griffin:
- 1st - Russell Thorn 70 nett countback.
- 2nd - Paul Dixon 70.
- 3rd - Mick Bell 73.
- 4th - Geoff Chalfont 76.
- 5th - John Taylor 78.
Bacon (Handicap 20 and over) - Griffin:
- 1st - Wes Lourens 70 nett.
- 2nd - David Pyrah 72.
- 3rd - Erik Sorensen 76.
- 4th - David Abbott 78.
- 5th - Vic Tydeman 80 countback.
Twos: Just one two today, Bob Sparks on the 3rd. Thanks to Alex McMinn, Dave Middleton and Roger Birchmore for card duty and Roger Birchmore along with myself for clubhouse duty. Inter Club Matches The team return to action this week with a visit to Singing Hills on Thursday in what will be the penultimate fixture of the season. We are though short of players for the final match at Mid Sussex on Monday, 28 October. If you are able to play please sign up or email me to let me know you are available to play.
Next Week Next Tuesday it is the Winter Wrinklies on both courses. The format is medal but the handicap allowance is your handicap plus your age. Half allowance on the Phoenix where this will be the inaugural playing of the Bernard Smith Trophy. To add to the drama, as previously advised this will also be the final round of the Haig on the Griffin and the Lanka on the Phoenix. So please enter your card into the PSI for these competitions and then hand your card to the Clubhouse Duty member for recording of the Wrinklies score. Steve Atkins CVGS Captain 2019
