Not long to go...
We are another week closer to our Pro-Am on Friday 26th July and we are still looking for people to enter teams. With excellent amateur prizes for the top 8 teams it is well-worth entering. If you don’t have a team, we will try and find other people to make-up a team.
The entry fee is £65 per person for members and £95 per person for visitors. If you are interested in entering then please head into the shop and fill out an entry form or email Sam at proshop@cottesmoregolf.co.uk.

Cottesmore Seniors Open
The Senior's Open again proved popular this year. Having capped the entry at 72 eventually 78 were squeezed in. Our Open has both visitor and domestic competitions as 46 home players featured in the domestic competition and 32 visitors from 22 different clubs in the visitor competition. Whilst most visitors come from clubs in the South East we had entrants from clubs in Gloucestershire, Devon, Shetland and the USA. Whilst the exact figure has yet to be calculated around £2,500 was raised for our charities, Chestnut Tree House and St Catherines Hospice. So a huge thank you to those who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets, bid in the silent auction or failed the double your money challenge on the 7th. The weather could not have been kinder, pleasant temperature, mainly sunny and little wind made for great golfing conditions which were enjoyed by all. The course was in superb condition, but being Cottesmore you still had to play well to gain a good score.
Top of each of the scoreboards were as follows:
|
Visitors:
1st - Robert Knight (Cowdray Park) 38 points 2nd - Walter Caldwell (Chartham Park) 37 points 3rd - Terry Williamson (Chartham Park) 36 points 4th - Martin Russell (Betchworth Park) 35 points 5th - Michael Murray (Nevill) 34 points
|
Cottesmore:
1st - Alex Morrison 42 points 2nd - Ron Vance 40 points (cb) 3rd - Andrew Ross 40 points 4th - Wes Lourens 39 points 5th - John Taylor 38 points
|
|

A big thank you to many of you...

Inter-club matches Last Wednesday saw the team return to winning ways in a big way with a 8-0 home win over West Hove.
The score suggests West Hove fielded a weak team but that was not the case as they had the low handicapper in 7 of the 8 matches. I have been on the wrong end of a couple of white washes and I think this is the first time I have played in one that has been in our favour.
Special mention goes to Graham Sinclair who, after starting on the 9th, completed a 3 and 2 win for David Pyrah and himself by holing his second shot on the 5th. Two matches this week: at home to East Brighton on Friday and away to Bletchingly on Monday when Alex Morrison will be skippering the team.

Next week
Next Tuesday is the fourth rounds of the Morley and Bacon trophies on the Griffin and the Rogerson on the Phoenix. The format is medal and they are qualifiers. However, it is also worth thinking ahead to the following Tuesday when it is the Vets' invite to Ladies on both the Griffin and Phoenix. These are drawn group competitions, so if you wish to play you need to sign up in advance as next Tuesday will be your last opportunity to do so on the sign-up sheet at the club on the notioceboard or via the website below.

We celebrated the day with a glass of Pimms on the new balcony before enjoying the food supplied by Will and his team. Blessed with the weather...
Monday was our fun competition of Captain vs vice-Captain Challenge. Previous matches have been postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions. We were blessed with lovely weather this time and able to play our first match in this fun competition. The winner of the first challenge goes to the Captain's team.
|
Coming up…
Next week is our monthly medal competition on the Griffin and Summer aggregate for our 9 hole ladies on the Phoenix and don’t forget Christine’s Quiz Night on 12th July.
|
And finally...
Good luck to the Morrice Fours team of Iona & Ruth, Penny & Heather and Linda & Christine in the quarter finals at Royal Eastbourne against The Nevil on 3rd July. |
Reading between the lines |
One of the hardest things in golf is green reading; it is also something that the majority of golfers never learn how to do properly. So, without giving away all the secrets, here are some handy tips to help keep you on track and hole more putts. |
High and low Prior to reaching the green, take note of the high and low points of the surface and where your ball lies in respect to these. This will help you to build a general picture before reaching your ball. 360 picture
If you’re struggling to read which way your putt breaks from behind the ball, try walking around to the other side of the hole as this can often highlight any breaks you may have missed or reaffirm your original read. Utilise our expertise
To really master the art of putting, book a coaching session with us and benefit from our years of experience as PGA professionals. Here we will teach you the in-depth steps to improving your green reading skills.
