How is your iron play?
I am sure by now you are all aware of our superb swing studio we have situated at the back of the shop. Well, as of Monday July 1st we will be running monthly nearest the pin competitions at some of the best courses in the world including Congressional, Carnoustie, Wentworth to name a few. It will be just £1.00 per entry for 3 shots (you can enter as many times as you like) and the nearest to the pin at the end of the month will win a dozen balls of their choice.
That’s not all. The top 5 of each month will then go into a playoff at the end of the year to win a grand prize. Be sure to have a go!

Rain is good for grass at least...
The rain we have been having the last few weeks has definitely made the course look spectacular.
I have been hearing so many good reviews and comments lately and it really is great to hear. I was out there today and the works that have been taking place are coming together nicely.
Here is the view from the second white tee which is looking better and better every day with the grass growth.

|
But that's not all...
You will have noticed lots of work going on near the water on 17 too.
We are relocating the path to run alongside the water’s edge and adding a very impressive wall of gabions which will look incredible from the tee.
We will definitely have a WOW factor going forward. I can’t wait for it to be complete.

Restored to its former glory...
Not sure if all of you are aware but when we had the fire, the portrait of Paul Hurring was damaged. You will be pleased to hear that it has been restored to its former glory. On Sunday, after play has been completed, we will have Val Hurring, mother of Paul, presenting it back to the club as well as a few people saying some words. It will be great to have as many of you there to welcome it back. |
Great week for Cottesmore Ladies...
Despite another unsettled week weather wise, Cottesmore ladies have shown what they are made of. The Kathleen Rider competition was represented by 45 Sussex clubs at Ham Manor Golf Club last Thursday. The format is 18 holes Foursomes Stableford with ½ combined handicap. The weather was blustery, chilly and at times wet, making a challenging day for all the competitors. Despite this our team of Christine, Viv, Catherine and myself came in as runners up. Congratulations to the team.
On Saturday, Jenny Frei and Irene Matheson, played in the 4th round of the Daily Mail Foursomes, playing Haywards Heath at home. They won their match 7-6, putting them through to the 5th round, when they will play Cranleigh away on 10th July. Well done ladies on a very convincing win.
Our Morrice Fours team played Hillbarn away on Sunday. With another blustery and wet day, our Cottesmore ladies came away victorious after a very tight match, winning 2-1. This puts us through to the quarter-finals to be played on the 3rd July against The Nevil at a neutral venue to be confirmed.
What fantastic results by all who played in the above matches.
On a lovely June day on Monday our friendly team played at home against Cranleigh. The visitors were very complimentary about the course and whilst all the matches were very close, the opposition won 1-3.

All to play for…
Division 1 play their final match in the group stages on Saturday against Cooden Beach, away. They have already qualified for a place in the quarter finals as no-one else can catch them on points earned to date. They will, however, not be complacent, as it would be great to show their dominance in the group with a final win over Cooden Beach.
Division 2 play a very important match away against Royal Ashdown Forrest on Sunday. If they win, they will be winners of their group, qualifying them for the quarter finals also.
Division 3 play Chichester away on Friday. Unfortunately, they have not been able to repeat their success of last year when they got through to the finals in which they finished as runners up, but we wish them well in their final match.
Good luck to all those playing in the above matches.

They were not wrong...
Abandoned upon arrival on Tuesday but the conditions did not seem too bad. It was warm, humid and dry. The course looked to be in great condition and did not disappoint. However, the forecast for later in the morning was not promising - heavy rain. So, the field set off with fingers crossed that the forecasters had got it wrong. Unfortunately, they had not, and the klaxon was sounded, presumably because electrical activity was a possibility, calling players from the course. So, there was no choice but to abandon both competitions. Nevertheless, thanks go to David Pyrah, Tom George, Bob Bason, and Pete Hemsley for card duty and to Alex Morrison and Roger Birchmore for clubhouse duty.

Inter Club Matches - half season report Last Wednesday the team visited Cranleigh with Alex Morrison skippering in my absence and emerged victorious 4 - 2, thanks to 3 wins and two halves. All the wins were by the same margin 3 and 2, but special mention goes to Eddie McDermott who was having one of those days where, shall we say, you are glad he is on your side. We have now reached the halfway point of the match season and the playing record is as follows: played 12, won 9, drawn 3, lost none. Thus far 32 members have played for the team. The lead for the Most Valuable Player Trophy is shared by Mike Hamilton, Wes Lourens and, myself all on 28 points. From recollection these were the top three players last year which shows a remarkable level of consistency. But there are though several others in close contention. This week we visit Slinfold which will be another stern examination.

Next week... Next Tuesday it is round 5 of the Haig (Griffin) and Lanka (Phoenix) trophies and the format is stablefords and they are qualifiers.

How good does it feel when you strike the ball right out of the sweet spot? Pretty special, right? As much as we'd all love to, striking the centre of the clubface on every shot isn't realistic, which is why opting for some irons with added MOI could make all the difference. |
What is MOI? An iron’s actual sweet spot is no bigger than a pinhead, with anything struck outside resulting in the clubhead beginning to twist at impact – this is what is commonly referred to as MOI. The higher a club's MOI, the more stable it is through impact and therefore more resistant to twisting. So... Higher MOI = More forgiving |
The secret to better strikes So, here's the secret to getting that special feeling more often with your irons: - Coaching – Yep, let’s take some time to assess your swing to ensure you're giving yourself the best chance of success
- Try out PING’s G410 irons – These great looking game improvement irons feature toe and hosel weighting to increase MOI for more forgiveness
Let’s start getting a little extra forgiveness back in your game with a fun-filled custom fitting session with your local PGA professional – that’s us!
