A Captain's report...
This year, I made the decision to adjust the format of the day and decided to run a 27 hole competition over both the courses. We all know how good the Griffin is, but this was an opportunity to show the 124 entrants just how good our “little 9 hole” Phoenix is. On the whole, the feedback received has been very positive, but it will be up to Malcolm next year if he wishes to keep it or change it to something new. The weather was extremely kind to all involved and being able to use and showcase the new balcony and Phoenix Bar aided the smooth running of the day. The courses were in immaculate condition and my thanks go to Ben and his team for the incredible work they are putting in. My thanks also go to the wonderful wives of our members too, and hopefully everybody was able to sample the amazing snacks and cakes so generously provided by them and for their hard work during the day. Whilst speaking of food, I should also thank Will and Chris in the kitchen and Alyssa and her team for the pulled pork and salads that I hope you all enjoyed after the golf. I have personally thanked all the members that kindly donated auction prizes and the auctions were a resounding success that helped raise more money for my charity. Whilst the results were taking slightly longer than anticipated to reconcile, we decided to hold an impromptu nearest the pin on the 18th from 100 yards. This event, cheered on by the masses on the balcony was won by Steve Grouwstra whose 5 feet from the pin made his day. Finally, the results arrived. Prizes were handed out for the following:
•Best 9 Phoenix – Ady Darker & Haydn Shaw with 27 points
•Front 9 Griffin – Paul Field & John Penalver with 23 Points
