Fitting news

Join us for Callaway's visit...

We have now confirmed dates for a Callaway fitting day and a Titleist ball education day. Our Callaway fitting day will be 10th July from 10am – 2pm, so you can try all of the latest equipment from one of the biggest club manufacturers in golf. Our Titleist ball education day will be on 9th June (Captain's Day). There will be a Titleist tent setup near the 18th green and the ball specialist will tell you everything you need to know about what ball you should use and why. Make sure to pay the tent a visit.

Ladies' news

The latest ladies news...

Congratulations to the Morrice Fours team who had a convincing win at home against The Dyke. Also, Division 1, won their first match of the season at home against Cooden Beach.

Division 1 now play Willingdon away on Friday 3/5 followed by Singing Hills away on Saturday 4/5, while Division 2 play Goodwood away on 7/5. Good luck to all the teams.

Thursday was our Spring meeting which was well supported by the ladies.

The winners were:

18 holes Silver division:

1st place - Penny Gaunt 37 points
2nd place - Margaret Swatman 35 points

18 holes Bronze division:

1st place - Ros Bird 34 points
2nd place - Helen Whitehouse 33 points

9 hole:

1st place - Jan Hemsley 17 points (cb)
2nd place - Mary Escott

Overall winner was Penny Gaunt. Congratulations to all the winners. The highlight of the day, however, was when Gail Fee achieved a ‘hole in one’ on the 17th hole. Congratulations Gail.

This Thursday is the monthly medal and Summer Aggregate and the annual Fittall/Jones cups, are being played on Bank holiday Monday.

Rogerson, Morley and Bacon Trophies

Many thanks to Alex Morrison for standing in for me on Tuesday

Tuesday saw the second round of the Morley and Bacon trophies on the Griffin and the Rogerson on the Phoenix. For most though it will feel like the first round as few ventured out in the atrocious conditions that accompanied the first round.

All three competitions are season long and played in medal format.

Thanks to Dave Roberts and Eddie Bowles for card duty and Bob Imrie and Roger Birchmore for clubhouse duty.

Congratulations to Alex Henderson on reducing his playing handicap.

Inter Club Matches:

Last Friday the team visited West Hove who fielded a strong looking team with the low handicapper in every match. This even included a 3 handicap player which is the lowest I have ever witnessed in these matches. It proved to be a close matter with a couple of matches going to the last putt and Cottesmore showing their resilience to fight back and reverse or halve substantial deficits in other matches. So I am pleased to report that Cottesmore maintained their unbeaten start with a 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 victory. Top performers were Paul Dixon and myself together with Wes Lourens and Eddie McDermott, both pairs winning 3 and 2.

This week we host Slinfold with the team being led by Alex Morrison.

Next Week:

Next Tuesday we are playing round 2 of the Haig Trophy on the Griffin and the Lanka Trophy on the Phoenix. Round 1 has yet to be rescheduled following its cancellation, twice, due to inclement weather. The format is stableford and it is a qualifier.
