A word from the pro

The perfect start!

What a week for Francesco Molinari. He was questioned at the start of the week about his switch from Nike to Callaway but came out on top in which was a superb week for our Europeans. Molinari made the questionable switch only weeks after celebrating his best year as a professional: He won 5 points from 5 at the Ryder Cup, won his first Major at Carnoustie and won for the first time on the PGA Tour. It was a risky decision, but he knew exactly what he was doing and in his first start with Callaway clubs he was victorious. A 12 under total was enough to keep Matthew Fitzpatrick, Rafa Cabrera Bello and Tommy Fleetwood at bay.

Men's news

The latest men's news

This week sees the start of the pair’s competitions with the Challis Tankard. Good luck to all taking part.

The A team play Lingfield on the 16th March away.

Last week saw the Crown League take on Sunbury away and unfortunately lost 4-1.

2 of our members representing Cottesmore in the Daily Mail were successful against Cuckfield 5&4. Well done Dean Smith and Martin Lambert.

We had a huge number of entrants for the Monthly Stableford last weekend. Well done the winners below:

Ladies news

The latest ladies news...

Well there was no golf this week as storm Freya hit us and we may not get out this week as storm Gareth now hits us. Next week is the Winter Aggregate - let’s hope for better weather for the final week of this popular competition. Don’t forget to sign up if you haven’t already done so. Plus don't forget, the ladies meet for coffee and a catch up on Thursday’s at 10.30, if the course is closed.

Vets news

The latest Vets news...

Another week, another storm as Gareth followed Freya. This week it was slightly better news as the courses were declared open at 8:20. Wet and windy conditions were still forecast. In what seems like a mass break out of common sense only a few hardy souls turned up, so the competitions were abandoned anyway. A few members did venture out for 9 on the Phoenix.

The spirit of the section was well and truly shown by those on duty still heeding the early alarm call and casting off the warm duvet to report to the clubhouse. So many thanks to David Keep, Terry Knight and Bill Bailey (card duty) and Bill Chaffe, Roger Birchmore and Alex Henderson (clubhouse duty). Unfortunately, your efforts were in vain.

This week sees the start of the match season with the team visiting East Brighton and Banstead over the next 6 days.

Listen up...

When was the last time you checked the wear-and-tear of the tyres on your car? Chances are more recently than the grips on your golf clubs. That’s understandable, but if you're looking to improve your golf game in 2019, the grips on your clubs play an equally vital role so shouldn't be overlooked.

David Leadbetter talks to Foremost TV about the importance of your grips

According to world renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter, you should be re-gripping your clubs ‘at least every year, but ideally after every 40 rounds of golf’. This is because UV light, dirt, and general use cause your grips to lose tackiness and traction, which results in an increase in grip tension, leading to reduced clubhead speed and distance.

So, what do you need to look for? - ‘If you see wear marks such as indentations or your grips look shiny, then they are past their due date’. Great advice from one of the most respected golf coaches in the world!
