A great amount raised!
Thank you to Malcolm Holmes for registration and Donald Day for card duty. We raised £337.00 for the Amyloidosis Research Fund from our golf bag and balls raffle. Thank you for your support!
Please be aware the Chicken Peck closing date is Sunday 3rd February so be quick. We also have our Men’s AGM on Tuesday 5th February. If you have any questions or queries, this is the place to get them answered.
Our summer knockouts are now available to enter on the P.S.I. There is a postbox next to the P.S.I for money entries with envelopes behind the proshop counter. Finally, good luck to the remaining players in the winter knockouts.

A quiet start...
It was a quiet week for my first week as Lady Captain so not a lot to report. Firstly, congratulations to Shirley who was leader in the club house Thursday in the Winter Aggregate with 16 points.
Congratulations to Heather on an excellent year in 2018 and for raising just over £6500 for her charity 'Heads On'. What a massive achievement. Well done and thanks to all the ladies that have supported her.
My chosen charity is Whoopsadaisy. They are a small charity based in Brighton helping children with physical disabilities live life as independently as possible. In particular it provides free Conductive Education for local children with cerebral palsy and other motor disorders.
My charity coffee morning is on 5th February at 10am when a representative from the charity will be there to tell us more about the good work they do. We will also have a sample of the open forms for you to browse through.
Thanks.
Jill, Lady Captain

Bill bows out!
A big thank you to Bill Chaffe for leading the section so well in 2018. The AGM and Captain's lunch being the final functions of his Captain's year. It has been a privilege to serve as his Vice Captain. Bill, I know really enjoyed his year and it showed, always having a smile on his face, and always remaining positive even in those difficult days and weeks in the immediate aftermath of the fire.
Despite the difficulties faced he was determined to keep our programme going and support the Cottesmore Club as much as possible. Within 48 hours of the fire he was telling me that he thought we could still go ahead with our Seniors Open. A daunting prospect for me as I was the one charged with delivering it!
We all thought Bill was having one of his japes when he took a bucket of balls for the pitch in, pitch out. However, it seemed he was very reluctant to relinquish the captaincy as it took him several attempts to hit the green.
I was a little better, hitting the green at the second attempt having seen my first come up just an inch short. Bill remains on the Committee as immediate past captain and in that capacity still has a number of events to organise.

Weekly Winners
No competition this week, but we did have winners of the champagne for the pitch in. Bill's ball - was won by Dave Middleton, and Steve's ball by Nigel Thomsett, whose bottle was presented by Jayne Todd of Chestnut Tree House. Dave, I will present your bottle after play next Tuesday.
Thank you for your generosity in donating to my charity - which follows Bill in also being Chestnut Tree House. A total of £188 was raised which Alex Morrison is claiming as a record. Many thanks to Alex for organising the sale of the flags and the efficient clearing of the 18th green immediately after. Jayne gave a short insight into the work of Chestnut Tree House immediately after the Captain's Lunch.

Fix It February
We are rightly proud of the condition of our course and can enjoy the fruits of management's effort to improve the playing surfaces, particularly the greens, over recent years. However, we can help too. The issue of pitch marks has recently been highlighted. It really matters not who is responsible for the pitch marks, we can only help by repairing them.
So, to get us in good habits can I ask that during February we fix our own pitch mark and one more. If your ball rolls onto the green, then just fix the one more. That way we can help keep our greens in great condition. Come March hopefully the habit will have become second nature.

Knockout Competitions
It is time to start looking forward to the new season and entry is now open for this season’s knockouts.
These are being run by Bob Imrie and his preferred method of entry is by using the sheet placed on the CVGS noticeboard. However, entry is also available through the CVGS website and the Cottesmore website so there is no need to make a special journey to the club to enter if you forget while you are there. The closing date is 5 March . This year there will be a single’s knock out competition on the Phoenix in addition to the traditional three on the Griffin - Singles, the Basil Stanford (Four Ball Better Ball Pairs) and the Jock Cairns (St Andrews Greensomes Pairs).
|
Next Week...
Next Tuesday's competition is a Yellow Ball 3 ball stableford on both the Griffin and the Phoenix.
Handicapmaster is unable to cater for this format so there is no score entry through the PSI. It is possible that an alternative could be used to display the leaderboard but this will be for those on clubhouse duty to determine.

The moment you've been waiting for... |
Last week, we revealed some of the best irons on the market for 2019. Well, this time we're bringing out the big guns for you; it's time to take a look at one of the hottest, fastest drivers on the market in 2019 that'll have you hitting the ball further than ever off the tee. |
PING G410 Plus driver Featuring a game-changing moveable Tungsten weight on the back perimeter of the clubhead, we can set up PING's new G410 Plus driver in a draw, fade or neutral setting during a fitting to help counter your destructive shot, leading to more drives finding the centre of the fairway. The likes of Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood will be putting the G410 into play on Tour, so why wouldn't you go for it as well? Come and speak to a member of the team about a custom fitting. |
