Welcome to this week's newsletter bringing you all the latest news from the club, pro shop, and the world of golf. Enjoy the read. |
Word from the Pro
Last week we saw ‘The Match’ between Phil Mickleson and Tiger Woods.
It was Phil Mickleson who came out as the winner after playing 22 holes and finishing in the dark, winning the $9 million prize fund and graciously donating the money to charity. Will this mean we will see anymore of these type of matches in the future between other pros: Spieth v Reed, McIlroy v Thomas?

The latest Vets news...
Setting out from home it was a little misty this morning, but I didn’t envisage any problems with the course. However, the closer I got to the club the denser the mist became until on arriving in the car park it became obvious that we wouldn’t be able to start at our allotted time. After much discussion with the pro shop and the green staff, a couple of false starts and an extra cup of coffee a 09:45 shotgun start was agreed.
Somehow, I had managed to draw a start from the first tee with David Haynes and Terry Davey in my group. Despite rain over the weekend the course was surprisingly dry as we set off. Only another 12 groups to follow us on the Griffin giving a planned start number of 37.
On the Phoenix 26 members were able to set off without delay at their allotted time of 09:50 with the aim being to have everyone back in the clubhouse together for the prize presentation. Pace of play is always a challenge and the weather soon deteriorated making it a thoroughly miserable experience in steady rain.
Despite this the scores returned at the end of the day were very impressive. That is unless you were in a group like mine where the golf was rather like the proverbial curates egg – good in parts.
However, those parts were a small fraction of the golf played! |

In the past, golf clothing has had the reputation of being “for the golf course” with a call to the fashion police needed if you were to wear it anywhere else. Thankfully, times have changed, and we now have a vast selection of fashionable pieces in-store that you’ll be able to confidently wear both on and off the golf course.
|
We know some of you are still wearing your baggy golf jacket from years gone by, so here's our suggestion to replace it: Galvin Green's Lance jacket. |
If you're shopping on the high street, you'll want an array of options to choose from. Well, this jacket is available in seven colours so there's something to suit all golfers. |
Its stylish design means it can be worn both on and off the course, whilst INTERFACE-1 fabric is windproof, water repellent and highly breathable for maximum comfort. |
