Welcome. In this week’s newsletter we have winter deals, the Titleist bag finds a new home and Titleist are to host a fitting day in the studio. Enjoy the read. |
A word from the pro… It is fair to say we are well and truly in to winter now, which means course conditions are going to be testing over the next 5 months or so. With that in mind can I please ask everyone to repair pitch marks on the green. Even if your ball doesn’t make a mark can you look around and repair any that you see. If everyone does this, it will improve our putting surfaces significantly. The reason I say this is because I was shocked to see how many pitch marks were out there on Monday morning when we were playing. And we were the first group out too, so they must have been from the Sunday. The greenkeepers work tirelessly all year to give us the best possible course to play. The least we can do is repair a few pitch marks. Rant over!

And the winner is...
You will have seen that over the last few months we have been running a competition in-store with Titleist, giving you the chance to win a limited edition staff bag when you buy a dozen Titleist golf balls. Well we now have a winner. The lucky new owner is Dave Ormerod.
Congratulations Dave. I can't wait to see it being put to good use.

Quiz night!
The next quiz night will be on Friday 2nd November, in aid of Heather's charity, HeadsOn. This is last quiz of the year and my team will be looking for another win, unless you want to come along and beat us!?
|
Turkey trot The last competition of my year will be on Sunday 2nd December. Teams of six, playing in three separate foursomes stableford. Christmas dinner could be all sorted out, if you play well enough. The day will also feature my drive-out and Martin's drive-in. Surely I can't hit a shot as bad as my drive-in last year. We'll see. Entries cannot be made via the PSI, so we have a sign up sheet on the notice board in the clubhouse. £30 for the team of six. Get your entries in early if you can please, it really helps us to plan. |
Crown League
The 2018 Finals were played at Hampton Court yesterday 14th Oct. This year was an epic battle between Oak Park & Cottesmore. The weather was not the best, with persistent drizzle all day and at times heavy downpours. The team scores went like this: Match 1 - Win to Cottesmore 5&4 (Martin B-S & Nigel Powell)
Match 2 - Half (Ernie Cloete & Neil Cockerill)
Match 3 - Half (Richard Copeland & Steve Darlington) Well played Richard
Match 4 - Half (Ed Whiffin & Mike Frei)
Match 5 - Win to Cottesmore 2&1 (Dave Baggott & Jason Davey) Result 3.5 to 1.5 Cottesmore. |
Really well done to our team that were getting a little agitated by some dubious handicaps on the Oak Park side, but we didn't lose one match. Great result. A final mention, that Ernie Cloete picked up the 2018 MVP award, just beating Graham Snelgrove. Well Done. Congratulations to another successful campaign and to all that played for the Crown team during the year to get us to the finals.
Great stuff!

Competition results
This was it. The Masters. My last chance to get a win in my captain's year. I must've forgotten this gets played at Cottesmore, because after a good first two holes, I managed to card three no-scores in a row. Oh well. A huge field for this competition, as there is every year. 79 players out on the course, this is such a good event, and I was looking forward to the presentations. Hedging the nearest the pins slightly, I held a longest drive on the second. As expected, this went to one of the ladies, and Harry Reed was good enough to collect the wine on behalf of Jill Lewis. Also picking some vino tinto or blanco, was Terry Vanhinsbergh on the 7th, Andy Peate on the 9th (thanks for the charity donation, Andy!), and Dean Smith just missing out on an eagle on the 14th. A big twos pot was split only four ways; well done Dave Salmon, Dave Smythe, Josh Greig, and Mark Waddell.
|
With the field size, we added a couple of extra place prizes. Picking up vouchers, and favourites at the bar were: 5th - Clive Parker (38) 4th - Graham Snelgrove (39) 3rd - Nigel Powell (40) 2nd - Jason Davey (41) Putting in a very professional performance, with a gross 70 off of 4, and carding 42 points the spoils for the day went to Josh Greig. Well done Josh, that nicely rounds off a great season for you.

With such a big field, I have to pass on massive thanks to Nigel Hartwright for doing flags on the 4th yet again for us this year. It's a very long day and I'm sure many of us have Nigel to thank for his assistance. Thanks also to Donald for his never-ending help with organising the draws and a long afternoon collecting cards, and to soon-to-be Captain, Martin Bolton-Smith for keeping company through a drawn out morning at registration. Lastly, thanks to President Paddy for doing an admirable turn during the presentations - always lovely to see Paddy up at the club.

Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to have a golf bag which will keep your clubs and belongings dry during a downpour. |
Introducing Titleist's StaDry Deluxe This is where a cart bag like the StaDry Deluxe comes into play. You'll certainly be keeping your valuables dry if you opted to upgrade your golf bag to this offering over the winter thanks to Titleist’s StaDry waterproof technology, which ensures maximum coverage from the rain during your round. Weighing in at 2.9 kgs, it's also incredibly lightweight, making it easy to lift to and from the car boot to your trolley.
