The George Higgins and Reg Davey eclectic competitions

The beautiful weather that we have been enjoying seemed to have broken as I arrived at the club around 830am. Several of the Griffin players had already gone out and the clubhouse was buzzing with members signing in, having coffee and catching up before heading out onto the course. Sixty Five members played today (41 on the Griffin and 24 on the Phoenix).

By common consensus this was the best turn out of the year, if not ever!!

Although there would be some disappointed faces at the end of play, many more would play well and lay a good foundation for the winter eclectic competitions. By the time my group (Paul Cox, Terry Knight and myself) went out at 9.10 the weather was improving, and the warm sunshine was well in evidence as we reached the 11th hole – layers were being discarded!

We noticed that the group behind us had diminished to a two ball and were told that Mick Bell had called it a day as he was suffering with a bad back. We all wish you a swift recovery Mick and hope to see you next week. I had decided that the ‘Duffer of the week’ award today would be decided by the player losing most balls during his round.

The outcome was close and count back was needed to decide the eventual winner. That ‘honour’ went to Barry Keating who narrowly ‘beat’ Wes Lourens. Barry’s reward was a sleeve of ‘flashing balls’!! It’s up to Barry what he does with them.
