The heat of the last few weeks had dissipated but most playing members were still in summer gear with the occasional waterproof soon being discarded. Our Texas Scrambles are a time for fun with a competitive edge. This week I added an extra ingredient by making each team play the scramble alternatively off the yellow and white tees on the Griffin course and off the yellow and red tees on the Phoenix course. There were no adjustments in handicap calculations just the opportunity to experience playing some holes off the white tees when there was no real pressure to perform. Interestingly, I hadn’t advertised this slight change to the scramble, but everyone took it in their stride. The scores on both courses were very competitive today and most Griffin teams didn’t appear to have too much trouble playing some holes off the white tees. Fifty seven members played today. Thirty six members on the Griffin and twenty one on the Phoenix. Nice easy numbers to create teams of three so there were no arguments over the handicap allowances.
