There was a buzz...
To say Cottesmore was alive on Sunday would be an understatement. The Paul Hurring was our first competition since the fire and you simply wouldn't know anything was amiss. Good use was made of the pop-up salon tent and it was excellent holding registrations down by the first tee. Usually we're up in the bar and disconnected from the players going out; seeing every tee off was a new and enjoyable experience. Donald brought half his camping gear, so we had some tables to use and chairs to sit on. Weather was stunning as the field of 73 went out and it stayed that way all day. Clearly the course was playing well because we had nine people get a handicap reduction. Again, I have to thank the greenkeeping team for providing such a great track for us to play on. By the afternoon it was getting a little testing out there as the greens began to harden up under the sun - well that's my excuse anyway. The Paul Hurring is split by three handicap divisions, the winner of each going on to play in the Pines with me in October - a dubious prize if ever there was one. Winning in Division 1 was Terry Vanhinsbergh with 39 points. I'm very pleased to see Terry back at the club and in good health and even more pleased to have him in the team. Winning Division 3, and continuing his run of good results, was Marc Vincent with 39 points. Unfortunately, Marc is unable to play in the Pines due to prior commitments so we will be joined by runner up Mike Finch who was in second place on countback with 39 points. |
