What a week it has been in the golfing world. Patrick Reed has finally reached the heights he believes he is capable of. On Sunday at Augusta we saw late charges from Spieth and Fowler, we saw Mcilroy fall short again and Tony Finau defying the odds to finish strong.

Patrick Reed may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but you cannot deny his ability as a golfer and the mental strength he showed us all on the back nine on Sunday.

In March 2010, Patrick made a very bold statement which caused uproar amongst social media. Here is what he said: I just don’t see a lot of guys that have done that, besides Tiger Woods, of course, and, you know, the other legends of the game. It’s just one of those things, I believe in myself and – especially with how hard I’ve worked – I’m one of the top five players in the world.”

At this point, the then 23-year-old, hadn’t even played in a major let alone win one. Many people recall Patrick Reed making this statement but what they don’t mention too much is why he made the comments. He was on a rich reign of form having had 3 PGA Tour wins in just 6 months, one of those being a WGC event at Doral. Not many players get three wins in their career never mind in such a short period of time.

His reputation as a college student wasn’t the best to say the least. Accusations of cheating and theft have left a mark on his character although Reed denies these claims to this day. I don’t think it is for the general public to make judgement on his past. I think we should base our opinion on what he does on the golf course, and at the minute he is playing exceptionally well.
