Greetings from Cottesmore
Cottesmore Golf and Country Club

An increasing number of golfers are opting for a Lithium battery to power their electric trolley because, with a 5-year limited warranty, it provides a reliable and more cost-effective option than a Lead-acid alternative.

An integrated Battery Management System protects the Lithium and helps to provide a five-times-longer lifespan than Lead-acid equivalents, while both 18 and 36 hole Lithium capacities can be recharged from empty in less than five hours.

The lightweight and compact Lithium batteries are also designed to remain on the trolley when folded down, to make it easier when travelling to and from the course.

Available with 18 and 36 hole capacities, the Motocaddy Lithium range has been designed with options to fit all S-Series and M-Series models. We are also pleased to be able to offer LitePower batteries, developed to provide compatibility with 99.9% of electric trolleys and suitable for non-Motocaddy models.

Cottesmore pro shop is now offering 10% OFF all batteries until the end of September.

Cleveland's £100 trade-in on a new set of irons continues until the end of September

All you have to do is bring a full set of old irons to the shop and we will give you £100 OFF a set from Cleveland Golf's fantastic 588 range! If you've been considering a new set of irons for some time but were unsure of the cost, then this is the perfect time to cash in and start playing better golf this summer!

We are also offering incredible discounts on Titleist's 913 range in store. You can purchase one of their drivers for just £199, their fairway woods for £139 and their hybrids for only £129!

The Captains' Charity Pro-Am

Come and support your Captains in this great day!

On Friday 12th September, Cottesmore will again be hosting the Captains' Charity Pro Am. This annual event has been a great day out for a number of years and all proceeds go to our Captains' charities. For 2014, the Men's, Ladies and Vet's charities are as follows - Rainbow Trust Children's Charity, Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice and the Prostate Project respectively.

We already have a host of sponsors to assist in the event with a few spaces left, so if you would like to be a part of this great event and are not able to play please contact one of your Captains or Calum in the Pro Shop. Hopefully you will be able to play and please note that we only have room for 30 teams. Entry Forms are available here. Just fill in your three team names and drop the entry form into the Pro Shop with cheque. We will supply the professionals, unless you wish to bring your own. Any questions please feel free to email directorofgolf@cottesmoregolf.co.uk.

Men's Section

Rob Flack, with a magnificent 43 points, won the Cancer Research Stableford on Sunday. Yas Demir was the runner up with 41 points. Both players now go on to play a round of golf at the Oxfordshire on 15 October where there is the opportunity to win a trip to Morocco curtesy of Golf in Morocco. The leading Lady was Pat Johns with 32 points just beating Jenny Frei on countback. Nearest the pin on the second was won by Sam Passmore and nearest the pin on the 17th was won by Andy Clements. Altogether £635 was raised for Cancer Research - so a big thank you to everybody for their contributions.

On Saturday, the Cottesmore B team were in action drawing their match at home with the Dyke 3-3. The biggest win was notched up by Damian Radmall and Dave Abbott winning 9&7.

Next weekend is the Club Championship which is a 36 hole medal run over two days. The draw has now been finalised and posted on the board in the Gatwick bar and on the website. Future competitions are the Challis Tankard on Saturday 23 August which is a foursomes medal and the bank holiday fourball better ball on Monday 25 August. Both these pairs competitions can be entered, whilst the PSI is unavailable, by emailing Donald Day or by putting your name on the form in the Gatwick Bar. If you haven't a partner, then still enter and you will be matched up with another player in the draw.

Vets' Section

Whilst Captain Barrie was away on holiday, some 50 vets enjoyed an exciting day's golf in perfect weather with the Griffin course in wonderful condition. The main event was the CVGS Scratch Trophy which was won by Keith Cook with a gross 82 followed by Dave Marsden on 83 with Phil Hodson and Mick Brown close behind. Last year's winner, Mick Bell, and three times winner Chris Adamson were further back as they couldn't match Keith's consistency. John Hutchence played the first nine holes in 39 strokes but, alas, the magic disappeared and the second nine holes took 56 shots - funny game golf.

The second event was the Dave Roberts Trophy using the scratch scores adjusted by the player's handicap. The winner was Les Irvine with a net score of 70 followed by seven players on net 71. On countback Mick Brown came second with David Haynes third. To show how close the scores were a further five players were on net 72. Last year's winner of the Dave Roberts Trophy was Terry Knight who was unable to defend his trophy as he was with his family on holiday in Spain. The 2s today was shared between David Haynes, Alex Henderson and Phil Hodson who all received some £7 for their success.

Bernard Smith and Dave Middleton were thanked for carrying out card duty today whilst Bob Imrie was on Clubhouse duty masterminding sorting out all the scores. A good golf day - well played all. Paddy Dowzer reminded all Vets that volunteers are needed to help make the Pro-Am tournament on Friday September 12th a success. Sign-up sheets are on the notice board. Also on the notice board is an invitation for Vets to play in the mixed pairs competition on Monday September 1st. Ron Vance is organising this event.

Finally, on 31st of July two teams of Cottesmore Vets competed in the Bognor Regis Seniors Open meeting and though we didn't win the top prize we made a real impact. Hugh Masterson won a food hamper for the best individual score in his category, Bob Imrie won a prize for a tee shot that was nearest the pin, and the team of Bob Imrie, John Taylor, Hugh Masterson and Trevor James won prizes for coming third in the overall competition. Not to be outdone John Taylor won a classic bottle of port in the raffle!

Next week is scheduled as a Peter Morley/Harry Bacon event but if hollow tining of the greens takes place next Monday we will instead play a texas scramble.

Ladies' Section

The draw sheet for the Club Championship competition is now posted on the changing room noticeboard. Good luck to all those who have entered.

Lady Captain's Day - A huge 'thank you' to everyone who contributed to making my Captain's Day so special - from all of you who joined me, especially those who arranged a day off work to do so, my family for helping out as starter and with refreshments, and to my committee for my wonderful 'chariot'! I had a lovely, lovely day and trust you all enjoyed it also. Congratulations to the winners who were as follows:

1st place - Jill Lewis, with a magnificent 45 points
2nd place - Gail Fee with an equally impressive 41 points
3rd place - Julie Lintern on countback from Heather Skinner with 40 points
Best F9 - Heather Skinner with 20 points
Best B9 - Kate Corbett with 22 points
Nearest the pin on the 2nd - Silver division - Pat Johns; Bronze division - Pauline Kirkman
