Enjoy this week's read. |
I've changed my mind...
What a week for leftie, Phil Mickelson. He collected his 43rd PGA Tour win in what was a great advert for professional golf. The WGC event in Mexico provided us with hole outs, birdies galore and a playoff. The playoff opponent for big Phil was the man of the moment, Justin Thomas. Thomas holed out from 119 yards on the 72nd hole to apply the pressure to the rest of the field.

That amazing shot didn’t put Phil off, who was the oldest player in the field at 47, as he parred the last hole to force a playoff. The playoff was a slight let down as Thomas bogeyed the par 3 and handed Mickelson the trophy. Mickelson’s win came at an important time, with the Masters not too far away. Past winners of the Masters have been performing well over the last few weeks. Bubba with his win, Garcia hitting form, Spieth creeping up the leaderboard and now Mickelson with his WGC victory. It is setting up to be one of the best Masters in years with the game’s elite all hitting form at the right time. This week sees the Tour travel to Innisbrook, Florida for the Valspar Championship |

Get a grip! Playing with worn and shiny grips makes it difficult to produce a fluid and reliable swing, which leads to mishits and inconsistent ball-striking. Come and collect your FREE Align Golf Pride grip in-store and you’ll feel the difference that a new grip can make immediately. |

PING's new iron arriving soon Sitting alongside the iBlade, i200, G400 and the women's G Le in PING's iron range for 2018 will be the rather special G700. 'Beast from the East'
Not much news I’m afraid due to The 'Beast from The East', all I can say I am pleased it’s gone west!
Please let Catherine or myself know if you would like to play in the Easter Greensomes, it would be great to have more teams.

Competition results Forty-one players were attracted for our competitions this week, no doubt many relishing the thought of managing a round of golf without getting either blown away or soaking wet. When play started the outside temperature was 6’C, but as players were completing their rounds the temperature had doubled to 12’C and members were seen to be taking layers off rather than putting them on. To the spectator, the course looked in good condition and looking at some of the scores that would appear to be the case. Twenty-three players took part in the Cottesmore Rumble on the Griffin and the 2’s just seemed to roll in. Russell Thorn (obviously benefiting from his early morning coffee) rolled in a 2 on the 11th (temporary green) and David Haynes also had a two (on the 7th) but hadn’t entered the competition – oops! I don’t wish to take any of the limelight away from Russell but according to the competition stats the 11th hole was the easiest on the course today. No wonder that became a five pointer for him – well done. On the Phoenix 18 players took to the sunshine
Cottesmore Rumble:
- Winners - Alex Morrison, Tom George, Graham Sinclair - 81 points
- Runner up- Eddie Bowles, Mick Brown, Russell Thorn - 76 points
- 3rd - David D’Singh, David Pyrah, Wes Lourens - 76 points
- 4th - Mike Hamilton, Barry Keating, Terry Knight - 71 points
- 5th - David Haynes, Graham Proctor, Alan Rengger - 70 points
The Phoenix Stableford :
- Winner- Trevor Wiramanaden - 17 points - winning a £10 voucher
- Runner Up - Hugh Masterson - 16 points - winning a £5 voucher
- 3rd - Alex Henderson - 16 points (C/B)
- 4th - Bob Booth - 16 points (C/B)
- 5th - Edward King - 15 points

Grouse Foursomes - Saturday 31st March The competition is open on the PSI and website. You must re-enter the competition if you still wish to play in it. We are not able to port over the old entry list to the new competition, unfortunately. Due to the event being rescheduled, we are limited on tee times, so please get your entries in as soon as possible. |
Captain’s Day Buggies Last year we piloted a scheme in an effort to increase the number of people able to play on the Captain's Day. The day consists of 36 holes of golf and for some (and I'd class myself in this demographic) walking the whole way is neither fun nor something to look forward to. So, again this year we are looking to ask members if they would consider taking a buggy for just one of the two rounds. This allows a single buggy to be shared by four people on the day. Last year was a big success and it meant we had a good number of additional pairs able to play as they didn't have to walk the whole two rounds; either by taking a shared buggy for the morning or the afternoon round. Of course, if you do want a buggy for the whole day there is no issue with that either. To book your Buggy for captain's day, please just drop me an e-mail at cottesmore.captain@gmail.com. Please be sure to note whether you would prefer the buggy for the morning or afternoon (or all day).

Royal Marsden Annual Eclectic Please remember to enter the Royal Marsden Annual Eclectic that will run throughout the season. The one-off entry is £5 and there are over 40 qualifying rounds included. You must enter before you play in your first qualifier and for many this will be either the Hospice Cup or Tea Cup. The closing date is therefore Saturday 17th March. The fantastic advantage of this competition is that no matter how poorly you may be playing in a competition, you always have the opportunity to improve your overall eclectic score. There is no reason to stop playing if you 'NR' as your card for the eclectic will still qualify. You may just score that elusive birdie on the 17th when you thought all else had gone wrong! Entry can be made on the PSI or via the Website. Entry fee should be posted in the box in the Gatwick bar near the notice board.

Fun facts about the Masters..
- The Masters was the first tournament to host a 72-hole competition over four days.
- It was the first to have room to park thousands of cars.
- It was the first to offer free daily pairing sheets instead of a program.
- It was the first tournament to be covered nationwide on radio.
- It was the first to use bleachers.
- It was the first to use rope galleries, and the first to use private detectives to handle ticket sales and security.
- It developed the first on-course scoreboard.
- It was the first to use the over/under par system we generally use today.
Im sure you are equally as excited for the first major of the year. With so many players who have a great chance of winning it's set to be a brilliant event. Click here to let us know your predictions. |
Listen to what he has to say |
We’ve been hammering home the importance of getting your clubs regripped for the past few weeks now, so we thought we’d take a closer look at one particular grip that we’re currently offering to put on your 7-iron for FREE… |
| Interview with David Leadbetter | Golf Instructor |

Why try the Golf Pride Align grip? You might think launching a new golf grip is like reinventing the wheel, but this Golf Pride Align grip really has broken the mould. Its key feature is the raised ridge on the back of the grip. By feeling this ridge each time you hold a club, you’ll have a physical aid to your grip position. This will help you achieve more consistent hand placements, which should only lead to more consistent results. |
