I've changed my mind...
If you would have asked me two months ago how Europe is going to do in this year’s Ryder Cup, I would have said not very well. But now my mind has been firmly changed. Over the last few weeks the PGA Tour has seen Europeans climbing up the leaderboard. Tommy Fleetwood, Alex Noren and Thomas Pieters all had a very good week at the Honda Classic. I believe this is a result of more and more Europeans travelling over to the states to apply their trade on the Bermuda fairways and Poana greens. Playing alongside the best Americans week in week out, and going toe to toe with them, will give the European side a much-needed boost after a 17-11 defeat in 2016. It will be a tough task to win back the Ryder cup at Le Golf National, France this year with America having such strength in depth. Looking at the current standings, Europe will need to overturn Dustin Johnson 1, Justin Thomas 3, Brooks Koepka 9, Jordan Spieth 4, Matt Kuchar 18, Brian Harman 21, Gary Woodland 25 and Rickie Fowler 7 (number denotes current world ranking). Europe’s current team looks like this: Justin Rose 5, Tyrell Hatton 16, Matthew Fitzpatrick 30, Ross Fisher 27, Jon Rahm 2, Tommy Fleetwood 11, Sergio Garcia 12 and Alex noren 14. There is a long time to go until it starts and these teams will change week by week, but I am sure it will be a great contest and one I am thoroughly looking forward to. Come on team Europe!
