17 Faces A Change
You may be aware that a large limb came down from the much loved tree on 17 last week (above) and that we had a tree surgeon in to check its health, it is with much regret and distress that this tree has to come down. This tree, at over 200 years old, is iconic at Cottesmore and is going to be much missed. Fortunately 20 years ago Matthew Rogerson planted a Copper Beach (seen in the far right of photo) tree behind it to take its place for when this day arrived. It will not be as daunting or as intimidating but will much more kindly fill its 'shoes'.
In the meantime the area underneath the canopy of the tree is now GUR, within which play is strictly forbidden. There is a drop zone in place between the tree and the green and MUST be used even though this will mean that some players will get to move closer to the hole when dropping from the GUR. Please note that any ball retrieved from the prohibited area is done so at the players own risk. We are recommending that you do not enter this area due to the risk of further falling limbs.
The tree work will be started towards the end of the season and thus the 'much loved' tree will still be in play for the Club Championships when we can start to say our sad farewells. (The vets will probably be having a party!)
Opening This Monday
The Cottesmore Swing Studio will be opening for business on Monday 3rd July. The swing studio will be filled with state of the art equipment with its star attraction being the GCQuad from Foresight Sports.
''Foresight Sports has pushed the boundaries of technology to create the most accurate, reliable and versatile launch monitor on the market.''
This will give our customers the most accurate indoor facility for club fitting and for swing analysis. Never has there been a better time to get rid of that unwanted shot and it has never been easier to diagnose what the club has done at impact and communicate this to you.
As much as our launch on Monday is a 'soft' one we are offering FREE fittings for the month of July, and to encourage you all to experience our new facility we are running a Nearest the Pin competition. We have set it up so that everyone will be playing from the Green Tee on the 2nd Hole at Wentworth (123yards).
It is FREE entry and the winner will receive a 55 minute gapping session in the new simulator with Calum. Each player will have 3 shots and a top 10 leaderboard will always be on show. Come in and enjoy the fun!
Services offered in the new studio include:
Golf Lessons
Calum, Steve and Sam are all able to coach within the studio using the club and ball numbers produced during your shots. Prices vary. In tests this week, this facility proved invaluable to Peter Thomas, one of our aspiring youngsters, Just ask him!
Club Fitting
State of the art Club Fitting with Lynx, Mizuno, PING & Titleist is all available. See the difference instantly between your club and a new one. See what difference each shaft can make to your game, for better and worse. There will be a £30 fitting fee, though for the month of July this will be FREE.
Ball Fitting
Professional, Alistair Cardwell wanted to come in and test his equipment this week and it transpired that he was only getting 6,500rpm spin on his 8 iron and the Srixon Z-Star ball. Calum pointed out that it was low and suggested trying the new Pro V1. This instantly got his 8 iron spinning more than 1000rpm more on every shot, thus giving him more control. It also showed that his driver was not as efficient as it should be.
Gapping Sessions
Want to know exactly how far each shot and club carries? This is the facility to achieve that. There is no product more accurate. Josh Greig was in through the week getting his yardages ready for his comeback from his broken arm. There is so much more that this can do too, whether you wish to play 18 holes on it or just have a practice session on the range. Costs - £30 per 55 minutes.
You can also have an online account so that you can access your numbers at home. The cost for this is a one off registration fee of £25. Any questions just ask Calum or click here to get in touch.
For the mean time, just pop in and try your hand on the Par 3 competition.
Josh & Joseph Show Their Potential
Well done to Josh Greig who started his comeback with a win in the Junior Members Summer Cup.
Josh just showed the affect of short game when he took victory from Issac Peate.
Josh, having been out for some months now has only been able to practice his short game these last few weeks as he goes though rehabilitation with his arm and yet came up trumps with a nett 71 on his first event back.
In the Junior Academy Summer Cup it was Joseph Byrne who survived a scare from the much-improved Jake Penticost. In tough, firm, windy conditions both players reached the 9th tee in their allotted 36 shots, to force a playoff with Joseph edging in front, with a tremendous 12 foot putt for victory.
Byrne was lucky to get to the playoff after a poor tee shot on hole 8 put him in an unplayable lie, with Jake safely on the green. However, we all know how a golf match can turn and it did when Joseph had a tremendous chip followed by an 18 foot putt and the young Penticost 3 putted from a distance.
