The third Order of Merit event of the year is on this Saturday at 11am

With Richard Bailey playing in a football tournament this will be a great chance for the chasing pack to get closer to the top of the table. Who will win this week from the talented group of yougsters. Will it be Josh Dance or Josh Greig or maybe Jake Peate will be brave enough to take on the real talent of Cottesmore? There are a few other names I could mention.

2014 Order of Merit current standings:

Player Easter Cup Spring Masters Points
Richard Bailey 16 11 27
Josh Greig 21 DNP 21
Jay Eggleton 14 DNP 14
Henry J Gibson 12 2 14
Josh Dance 8 6

Connor Barnes 10 DNP 10
Cameron J Gibson 6 4 10
Egor Zotov 0 DNP 0
Louis Harrison 0 DNP 0

The recent tournaments have been tough on the Cottesmore Professionals, but lets not forget that these tournaments have a field of 132 with a cut of normally the top 36 players, so only those on song get through to the final stages. Last week's cut mark was level par, so the guys at just 2/3 over par are not far away on a tricky course with greens not as true as our own.

Both Calum and Steve have second round matchplay fixtures coming up, and both away from home and against seeded players. Good Luck!

Sam Smitherman has an Assistants Tournament at Lindfield next Thursday and all three and your General Manager, Matthew Hazelden, will be playing in the DataStor PGA Championship at Royal Ashdown on 2nd July. 36 Holes in one day, and that really will be for bragging rights!

Playing from Outside Teeing Ground

Match Play -
If a player, when starting a hole, playes from outside the teeing ground, there is no penalty, but the opponent may immediately require the player to cancel the stroke and play a ball from within the teeing ground.

Stroke Play - If a competitor, when starting a hole, plays a ball from outside the teeing ground, he incurs a penalty of two strokes and must then play a ball from within the teeing ground. If the competitor makes a stroke from the next teeing ground without first correcting his mistake or, in the case of the last hole of the round, leaves the putting green without first declaring his intention to correct his mistake, he is disqualified. The stroke from outside the teeing ground and any subsequent strokes by the competitor on the hole prior to his correction of the mistake do not count in his score.

Men's Section

On Friday 6th June, our Daily Mail Foursomes pair, Mick Stacey and Trevor Pigram played in the 4th round. They had a 7&6 victory over Lindfield and await their next opponents in the 5th round draw next week.

Donald Day and Rob Flack were victorious in the men's BMW Stableford on Saturday winning the first division with 39 points and the second division with 38 points, respectively.

Both men have won a round of golf at Wentworth courtesy of Vines BMW who kindly sponsored the event.

Vets Section

The match at Cranleigh last Wednesday was played on a good but very tight course in better than expected conditions. The forecast was for quite a lot of rain but fortunately we only had a heavy shower that lasted for about two holes. The limited amount of rain was about the best of our fortune as we lost 5-1. Congratulations must go to our only winning pair of Alex Henderson and Peter Allanson who were victorious by 8&7.

Ladies Section

Commiserations to Div. 3 who lost away to Goodwood on Wednesday 6:1 and to Div. 1 who lost 5.5-1.5 away to West Sussex on Thursday. Both matches had some tight games and our players were up against some strong opponents - Div.1 especially faced 1 and 2 handicappers and the county junior champion - all 6ft 4in of her! Wishing better luck to our Div. 2 team this week who are at home to Willingdon on Wednesday.

Use the 'tee drill' to groove a powerful strike

Last week we looked at how brands are creating irons that offer more distance than ever before. With a 9-iron in your hands, as opposed to a 7-iron, we're talking more looks at birdies - so long as your ball-striking is sound. So, here's a drill to help you deliver cleaner, more powerful strikes...
