Congratulations to Terry Vanhinsbergh who yet again came out on top when playing in the men's Club Championship last weekend. After round one he was four shots behind the pacesetters in Saturday's perfect conditions, however on Sunday the wind got up and Terry put his years of experience to good use in scoring a 75 to steal the championship from James McKean. James had also put his years of experience to good use and had one hand on the trophy standing on the 17th tee, however an untimely gust of wind blew his chip back off the green leading to a triple-bogey six and eventually finishing one shot behind. The nett winner was Paul Young who had a tremendous nett 66 on day two to burst away from the pack, finishing one shot ahead of Terry's nett score and two ahead of the ever-consistent Joshua Greig.
Our captain, Barry Peate, gave strong praise to the greenkeepers for the tremendous condition of the course. Not only has it been fantastic throughout but considering the monsoon-like rains through the week, it was exceptional to have everything back in line in 36 hours.
The Cottesmore juniors keep flying the flag and this time it was Elite Team players Salysa and Tejin Mason who were playing in the East Sussex National Junior Open on Tuesday and ran away with the spoils. Salysa (13 next month) stole the show scoring 3-over gross (75) for a nett 65 with her brother finishing second on nett 66. Salysa really had it going and was a tremendous one-under-par through 15 holes before falling for the East Course's renowned tough finish. A tremendous result for both players and of course we all know that there is more to come.
