Some temporary new cards for the Griffin Course are now in place. These are temporary due to the exact length of the new 10th hole needing to be verified and also due to the upcoming rebuild of the 7th tee - thus altering the length of this hole too. The most important thing to note with the new card is that we have changed one of the rules of the course. The rule change is that you now will get relief from the wood facings around the lakes if your ball is not in the hazard.
Last week the Cottesmore Team of Barry Peate Greg Lewis, Wes Lourens and Adrian Houslop (BMW) played at The Grove in the BMW Golf Day. The team came second with 85 points, just one point behind the winning score of 86. There was also an individual prize and Greg Lewis shot 34 points with 22 points on the back nine to come second and qualify to go to St Andrews for the final - good luck, Greg. Also on the day, our club captain presented Adrian with a bottle of champagne and a Cottesmore golf shirt for all the years we have had the BMW competition at Cottesmore, which without him would not have happened. Big thanks to Adrian and we all wish you a happy retirement.
Congratulations too to Naomi Zoob (pictured above) who was the winner of the Rosina Smith Cup on Sunday with 36 points, four clear of Irene Matheson. Well done on winning your first trophy - all that practicing is paying off.
Calum may have an opening for a competitor to join him in an overseas Pro-Am from the 7th to the 11th November 2016. This is a high-end Pro-Am, staying in a 5-star hotel and playing Monte Rei and Quina de Lago courses in Portugal. The costs are around £900 plus flights. If you think you may be interested please contact Calum on 07703 174261 ASAP as closing dates are this weekend.
Well done to Charlie Cook who won the Summer Junior Adult Foursomes event last weekend. Partnered by his grandad, Keith Cook, their nett 24 over the 9-hole Blue Course gave them a comfortable four shot lead over Leo Cahi and his dad Garth and Elliott Fillion and his dad, Rob.
While the Academy hosted their foursomes event, the Cottesmore junior members were playing their July Stableford on the Griffin Course, where once again Lucy Pigram came out on top. Lucy has been playing great all year and scored 40 points giving her yet another handicap cut reducing it to 27. Lucy was the 2015 Junior Academy Champion and 2015 Academy Player of the Year and it is fantastic to see her progress continue.
The Open Championship is on this week, one of the most anticipated events in the golfing calendar. Everyone's form is in question recently apart from Dustin Johnson, and as always it will be very hard to pick a winner. My favourites are Big Phil and Jason Day who are expected to do well but both have been off of late, though Phil had a great last round in the Scottish Open hinting that he may come back to the form that he had early on in the year. Defending champion Zach Johnson's game is also well suited to Troon as is Rickie Fowler's, but it may just come down to the weather. Rather than predict maybe we should just sit down, watch and enjoy.
