Margaret's Charity Challenge
Well done to Margaret Brice, who successfully completed her Charity Challenge of 3 x 10k in three days with times of 63mins, 68mins and 68.57mins. A great achievement of which she should be very proud, as we are all proud of her.
Well done Margaret and thank you again on behalf of our Ladies Captain's Charity Help Our Wounded Royal Marines. Margaret raised well over £1000 with this tremendous achievement.
Dogs at Cottesmore
There has been some concern and confusion recently as to our policy on dogs at Cottesmore. Below is our policy:
'Clean, well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome on the golf course and in the spike bar (to be accessed from the external metal stairs).'
For the sake of clarity, dogs MUST be on leads and are not permitted in any of the carpeted areas of the clubhouse including changing rooms, pro shop, the entrance hallway or stairs.
Congratulations to Joseph Byrne who won the Junior Academy's second Order of Merit event of the year and his second victory of the year in last weekend's Spring Masters. With one shot left on the 9th tee, he was tied with Henry Knapton. Joseph made it count with hitting a great drive just short of the 9th green to win his second title.
Commiserations to Henry who has shown great improvement this season had some comfort in winning the under 13s event.
Complete results:
Under 7s: Freddie Hopkins
Under 9s: Bailey Penalver
Under 11s: Joseph Byrne (pictured here)
Under 13s: Henry Knapton
Girls: Jessie Spurrier
While the Academy was hosting their Spring Masters on the Phoenix course, the Junior Members were competing in theirs on the Griffin and it was last year's Junior Academy Player of the Year and Junior Academy Champion, Lucy Pigram (pictured here), who showed her class in upgrading to the older event and blasting the competition and the course with a fantastic nett 62 and reducing her handicap to 31.
Lucy has been a regular winner within the Academy and to see her make this immediate jump to the winners circle within the Junior Members just shows what a great pupil she is and the benefit of regular participation.

Jason Day has well and truly confirmed his position as the best player in the world with yet another win, and this in the 'fifth major' The Players Championship. As Jordan Spieth is questioned again with a missed cut in his first outing since the Masters, Day just seems to get better and better. It is staggering to think that he currently has 50% more points than world number three, Rory McIlroy. With Rory playing in the Irish Open this week, he will be keen to get a win on the board. I'm sure Spieth will just be happy with a solid performance in AT&T Byron Nelson.
