We would like to say a huge well done to Alan Fenwick, a regular member of the gym.
He booked in for a health check with us in November and did another one with us this month. Alan has concentrated on his diet and Faye put him on a strict workout programme in between and the results speak for themselves.
His weight has gone from 94.9kg to 85.9kg losing 18.5 inches on his accumulated waist and hip measurements. As a result of this, his BMI and body fat percentage have vastly improved.
Hard work has definitely paid off with Alan and more importantly he feels much healthier for doing this.
If you want to book in for a free health check come and see us today!
Recipe - Black bean tostadas with avocado salsa
Method
1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Brush the tortillas with a little of the oil and place in a single layer on baking sheets. Cook for 8 mins until crisp.
2. In a large frying pan, heat the remaining oil. Add the onion and garlic, and cook for 5 mins. Add the spices, vinegar and honey. Cook for 2 mins more. Add the beans and seasoning, and heat through.
3. Remove from the heat and mash the beans gently with the back of your spoon to a chunky purée. Spread some beans over the crispy corn tortillas, scatter with your choice of toppings and add a spoonful of crème fraîche to cool down, or a splash of chipotle Tabasco to spice it up.
Ingredients
8 corn tortillas
2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, chopped
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp ground cumin
5 tbsp cider vinegar
3 tbsp clear honey
3 x 400g cans black beans, rinsed and drained · choose a few toppings- chopped tomatoes, sliced red onion, diced avocado, sliced jalapeño peppers, coriander sprigs

It has been a tough time on the course for the Cottesmore Professionals with all three comfortably missing the cut at Princes this week in the Kent Open. A busy work schedule has prevented them from getting out onto the range and all are feeling a bit rusty.
However reinforcements have arrived in the form of Alex Fieldsend, a graduate from The Golf College at Lindfield who joined us this week.
Alex is planning on starting his PGA training in October and I am sure you will all make him feel welcome at Cottesmore.
With many courses still recovering from the constant rain and flooding through the winter (Princes was no exception with many bunkers out of play) it appears to be very apt to talk about the relief that a player can get from GUR (ground under repair).
If a ball lies in GUR and the player takes relief then the first thing to be done is find the nearest point of relief, that gives complete relief from the GUR area. This is not a choice of where the player would like to drop the ball, but the nearest point to the ball that gives the player complete relief from the GUR. Once this point is identified, the player can then drop their ball within one club length of this point not nearer the hole.
A player is allowed to clean their ball when taking relief from GUR.

The weather nearly triumphed on Bogey Cup day with the course surviving a last minute inspection to allow the competition to take place more or less on time.
The competitors were grateful for a respite from the heavy rain, which fell the day before and all night long. Considering the amount of rain that fell, the course was in excellent condition with superb greens which were a great credit to the green keepers who were out in terrible weather to get the course playable. Winner on the day was Neil Cockerill who beat the course by 4 shots. It was a great achievement by Neil and he was especially pleased because it was his first victory in a singles competition. Now that he has broken his duck, more victories are bound to follow.

A chilly and slightly misty morning greeted us today for the Jim Richardson Memorial Trophy, a St. Andrews greensome stableford competition.
All players were asked to donate a minimum £2 to St. Catherine's Hospice. I am heartened by the great generosity of the 44 players who gave £243. Fortunately, the weather held and none of the forecast rain appeared during play, and it actually got quite warm at the end.

Spring Meeting - Thursday 24th April. An enjoyable event, even though the greens presented a challenge for quite a number of us! The results were as follows:
9-hole competition
1st place with 16 points: Sue Ford
2nd place with 14 points: Sue Woods
Bronze group
1st place with 29 points: Shirley Vance
2nd place with 28 points: Heather Tomsett
Nearest the pin on the 2nd: Sheila Aldridge
Silver group
1st place with 30 points on countback: Angela Whittington
2nd place also with 30 points: Linda Adamson
No-one in this group was on the 17th green, so this prize was awarded to Penny Gaunt who had 29 points.
The overall winner of the Spring Meeting Trophy was Angela Whittington.
Congratulations to all the prize winners and grateful thanks to Linda Clinton, Heather Tomsett and Prue Harding, who were responsible for the excellent organisation of the day. A further 'thank you' to everyone who supported the yellow and orange themed raffle, either through donation or ticket purchase (or both!) - it raised a wonderful £157 for my charity.
