Hello,
In this week's newsletter you will find out what Cottesmore is doing to support Sport Relief, learn about some success for Cottesmore's ladies, as well as being given a great exercise of the week from the Health Club team. Enjoy the read.
Sport Relief 2016 - The Health Club team will be hosting a swimathon to raise money for Sport Relief between the 18th-20th of March. All you need to do is swim as many pool lengths as possible. The target distance is the shortest distance across the English Channel (20 miles). Using a combined effort from as many members as possible, we're hoping to hit our target distance and raise as much money as possible.
Exercise of the Week - Sumo squats are a far reaching exercise when it comes to functionality and cardio-resistance training. Like a regular squat, they activate glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, lower back and calves. Where sumo squats differ is with their change in foot positioning. Your feet point further outward and with a wider stance. This will work your inside leg as well as creating more work for the glutes.

Well done to Tony Cockerill who scored 41 points on Sunday to 'steal' the Tea Cup from David Salmon by a single point.
A big thank you to all who played in our Sport Relief Celts vs Sassenachs match on Monday. 219 points each was the outcome of the six matches but it was a big relief for the Celts as they had to wait for Heather Skinner to hole a nervy four footer on the 18th in the final match to level the points. 24 players and 23 lost balls - well guessed Penny Gaunt but more importantly £230 raised for a worthy cause. Sadly no photo of Calum in his tartan trousers, but he did say he was more comfortable in them than playing in his kilt two years ago.
Midweek Stablefords/Medals - After last week's announcement that ladies and junior girls will be allowed to play in the midweek stablefords, it should be noted that this is for midweek medals as well. This now opens all Wednesday events to men, ladies and juniors to play in. Nothing else has changed. The player still books their own tee-times and arranges their own playing partners and the entry is still £5.
The Mail on Sunday team of Heather Skinner, Iona McKean, Pat Johns, Angela Whittington and Jill Lewis won their second round match vs Cuddington, 4.5 - 0.5. A great result against tough opposition who are more used to playing their golf on the dry chalk conditions of the North Downs and not familiar with the heavier clay conditions of Cottesmore.
Cottesmore also hosted a Sussex Girls match versus Middlesex which Sussex won fairly convincingly. It was really special to have a Cottesmore junior girl - new member Salysa Mason - representing the County and playing in the team. Her parents were delighted.
Congratulations to Jacob Newman, Cameron Regan, Charlie Cook, Leo Cahi, Elliot Fillion, Henry Cornwell, Harry Hiscock, Bailey Penalver, Ollie Lee and Joseph Byrne who have all been selected to join the Junior Academy Futures Team (under 10s). The schedule has been set and we all look forward to seeing you progress over the next few years. 14 girls have been invited to try out for the Girls team on the 27th March when the finalised team will be selected to complete the Junior Academy's four teams - Elite, A, Futures and Girls.
Well who would have thought it - Adam Scott wins again as Rory self-combusts, again. What a great event last week. Bubba and big Phil pushed him all the way and even Danny Willett had him in his sights, but the once weak Scott is showing a far greater strength of mind than he did a few years back. Only five tournaments to go before the Masters and with Adam Scott, Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Rory and Rickie Fowler showing form, it should be a fantastic event. Of course let's not count out Jason Day. He may not have shown form as yet this year, but there is time as he always appears to light up when a major comes to town.
This week Jordan Spieth defends at the Valspar Championship at the Innisbrook Resort and with most of the world's top 10 having a week off, it should be time for him to shine again, though I expect Danny Willett to continue his great form.
