Tennis Courts Update - Further to last week's newsletter, it is likely the tennis courts will be closed from Monday, 7 March, for up to a week, whilst work begins.
Boozers Scramble - The season is creeping up on us and despite the odd rainy day, things are definitely drying up. The Boozers Scramble took place last week and the winning team were Laura Marsh, Jake Peate, Sam Passmore and Neil Cockerill. This is a fun scramble event with teams of one lady and three men. On paper this always looked a strong team but it can sometimes be difficult to convert. Well done, Young Guns!
Midweek Stablefords - A change has been made to what used to be the Men's' Midweek Stablefords and it has been agreed that these Stablefords will become Mixed Stablefords allowing men, ladies, junior boys and junior girls to play in them. Nothing else has changed. The player still books their own tee-time and arranges their own playing partners and the entry is still £5 . It is just, now everyone can enjoy them.
This weekend we have the Tea Cup and of course on Monday we have Celts vs Sassenachs. The biennial match is a 4BBB event off of 90% handicap. Ladies receive a one stroke adjustment, with the total team points deciding the winners, so each person's score counts! Team colours, outfits and flags are welcome. It is a £5 entry, with an extra £5 for the losers. Guess how many lost balls? £2 entry, £2 fine for any balls in the water. Here is the line-up for the day's play:
Spring coaching has started with six classes up and running at weekends and after school. Calum is also just days away from announcing team dates for the Elite Team, A Team, Futures Team and Girls Team.
Cottesmore has also joined a Junior League with Mannings Heath, Ifield and Copthorne where we will play each club home and away. This will be for our higher handicappers and will be a four person team so will probably be a mix of our A Team and Girls Team that compete. More news to follow.
It was great to see Adam Scott back on the winning trail last week. He has been showing some great form these last few weeks, as has Big Phil. Wonderful to see the old boys showing the youngsters a thing or two. It is the WGC Cadillac Championship at the Trump National Doral in Miami this week, and will be the first event of the year with all top five in the world playing. Bubba, Rickie and Spieth have already won this season, leaving Rory (who self combusted a couple of weeks ago) and Jason Day, who really has not played a lot yet this year and may just be a little under played. I reckon the first three mentioned will battle this out with Big Phil who will win at some point prior to the Masters.
