Sport Relief - For this year's Sport Relief we are doing a Swimathon. Do your part (1 or more lengths) to help raise money. Our target is to cross the English channel (20 miles or 32 km) by adding all lengths swum by members between Friday, 18 to Saturday, 20 March. Sign-up now to guarantee your place.

Tennis Courts (update) - Further to last week's newsletter, the tennis courts will be closed from Monday, 29 February to Friday, 4 March whilst work begins on the courts.


 

It is an exciting time in the Pro Shop as we have some brilliant campaigns coming up for Cottesmore golfers to take advantage of. For example, next week sees the start of a bag trade-in with Motocaddy whereby you can trade-in your old golf bag and get £20 OFF a new one. Also starting next week is the ever-popular Titleist 4-for-3 campaign whereby you get one FREE dozen Titleist Pro V1 balls when your purchase three of more dozen. When the winter has been so long and wet, many of us wish to get away to play some golf in the sun. Calum has been doing this for years in February and again this week he has been away to enjoy some golf on dry land, to the South Region Overseas Pro-Am in Spain. Armed as normal with his team of Iona McKean, James McKean and Paddy Byrne, the team finished a creditable 5th but it was the Cottesmore Team of Dave Smythe, Ady Verbeeten and Stuart Radford playing with Horsham assistant Dan Smythe that romped to victory (pictured here).

It is once more time for our biennial match of the Celts challenging their Auld enemy all in the good cause of Sport Relief. This year the match is on Monday, 7 March and it is hoped that many of you will play. Whether there are 2 pairs or 20 pairs the match will go ahead and if my memory serves me right the Celts won in 2012 but lost in 2014. Entries can be received by email to directorofgolf@cottesmoregolf.co.uk or by putting your name up on the list in the Gatwick Room. Closing date Wednesday, 2 March at 6pm.

The Honda Classic is played this weekend as the start of the Florida Swing. With Bubba winning last weekend and moving into number four in the world, Rickie Fowler will be keen for a win to gain on the top three and leapfrog Watson once more. Rory missed a great opportunity last weekend when Spieth missed the cut and, with an eagle at the first, took the lead with 17 holes to play before finishing with seven bogeys in the remaining holes. It will be great to see how everyone reacts on the very tough PGA National at Palm Beach Gardens.
