HIIT Training and its benefits

High Intensity Interval Training - HIIT - Absolutely fantastic for weight loss and for a better body composition.

So what is HIIT?

The idea behind it is to work out at a higher intensity for short periods, active rest and repeat. The exercise can be cardio based and/or resistance based. The ratio between exercise and rest can vary as well to keep the body guessing.

For example:
Treadmill - Sprint for 30 secs, slow jog for 30 secs, sprint 30 secs, jog 30 seconds. This can be performed over and over again. As you get fitter the more rounds of an exercise you'll be able to complete. 1:1 ratio
Kettlebell - KB Swings 30 secs on, 15 secs off and repeat for 5 rounds. 2:1 ratio.

So what is the benefit?

The total calories burned during a HIIT session is far greater than if you spend long continuous amounts of time grinding it out on a treadmill or other CV machine. The increase in intensity means the body works harder and has to spend more energy to perform the exercise. Competitive athletes reap the rewards of HIIT training on a daily basis. As your body systems try to return themselves back to their natural state, post exercise, they will continue to burn more calories and recover.

So you'll still be working towards your dream body even when you're not in the gym!! Thumbs Up!

Club news

The weather took its toll on the first men's event of the year with last Sunday's Winter Scramble being postponed until Sunday 14th February. The original draw is in place. The courses are open today and conditioning is looking promising for the start of the season.

Have you entered the Tea cup? The first big event of 2016 open to men, ladies and juniors with the opportunity of having Mothers Day lunch at Cottesmore. For those wanting to book or enquire about our very popular Mothers Day Lunch please contact Jackie at events@cottesmoregolf.co.uk

Junior academy

JuniorSpring schedule starts weekend 27th/28th February, but before that we have the Winter Junior Adult Foursomes won last year by Ryan Chilton on this Sunday at 1pm.

The forecast for Saturday is not looking good and may put the event in jeopardy but fingers crossed. The season is not far away and it has been great to see so many of the Junior Academy out practicing and playing.

Tour news

Well it was a shock to see both Jason Day and Rickie Fowler miss the cut last week at the Farmers insurance Open and for us to witness the last round collapse of Paul Lawrie in Qatar where Brandan Grace successfully defended.

Day was close to withdrawing the day before the event due to illness, so he can be forgiven his missed cut so early in the season and I am sure he will bounce back, though as predicted he has dropped to number 3 in the world and with Rory being favorite this weekend to win in Dubai, it will be up to him to nudge a little pressure on world number 1 Jordan Spieth. A couple of pulled approaches at end of round 2 caused Rickie to miss the cut by one, just 9 off the lead. A real shame as I am sure the conditions that the players had to endure at the weekend would have suited Rickie just fine.

Plenty of great golf to watch this weekend, not just in Dubai but also the Waste Management Phoenix Open with the bonkers Stadium at the 16th hole.
